Planted in legacy. Always in bloom. ✦

We're announcing the Hayti Heritage Center 2026–27 season, and it's everything we needed.

Phonte Coleman — member of Durham’s legendary hip hop group Little Brother — brings his record collection home. John Holiday fills this space with a voice that will make you lean forward and hold still. A&T and NCCU lift their voices in joyful rivalry. The Sistering (Durham jazz royalty in a brand-new form) takes the Speakerbox stage. A teenage violin prodigy gives Durham kids a masterclass. Frankie Lee III brings a commissioned dance work back to where it all began. And Deesha Philyaw and Kennedy Ryan sit down to talk about Black women, desire, and freedom on the page.

This season, we're gathering around the question: What does it feel like to encounter something beloved and see it with fresh eyes?

That's the spirit threading through every performance, screening, and conversation in our 2026–27 season. We're calling it cross-pollination: the meeting of tradition and transformation, of elders and newcomers, of the deeply local and the nationally celebrated.

Deep roots. Fresh eyes. All year long.

Monet Noelle Marshall: Art + Consulting has been making work since 1999. She has worn a lot of hats.

This Juneteenth, she's wearing all of them at once.

"Ain't No Such Thing As a One-Woman Show" is an evening-length performance at the Hayti Heritage Center — interactive, immersive, and a little hard to categorize (which is kind of the point). She'll be playing many roles, inviting you into her artistic practice — past, present, and future — and asking you to witness what happens when an artist refuses to be just one thing.

It's intimate. It's funny. And it just might surprise you.

She has been preparing for this moment for a long time. Come see what she has learned this Friday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hayti Heritage Center!

Juneteenth belongs to us — and so does this moment.

Co-created by artists Derrick Beasley and Marcella Zigbuo Camara, Open Stu is a living documentary project rooted in the tradition of Black portraiture, collective artmaking, and community gathering. On the most fitting night of the year, we're inviting you to sit for a portrait, explore the archive, move with the DJ, and stay a while. We’re so honored to have Open Stu come home to Hayti.

On June 20, 7–11 PM, be seen, and be celebrated.

Free and open to all. RSVP here: https://www.hayti.org/open-stu-juneteenth-edition

Come home to Hayti this Juneteenth.

Three days. Four events. Black art, Black history, and Black community — we're celebrating and embodying freedom all weekend here at Hayti.

She'll play every role. Wear every hat. And take up all the space on Hayti's historic stage.

Monét Noelle Marshall's most personal work yet is an evening you won't be able to categorize, but we'll do our best: It'll be intimate. Funny. Surprising. ... And deeply human.

What does liberation look like when it's embodied?

Camille A. Brown answers that question with I AM — a bold, live-music-accompanied performance drawing from traditions across the African Diaspora. Co-presented with the American Dance Festival.
