StandUp~SpeakOut of North Carolina (SUSONC) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that provides advocacy and ther**eutic support through Art Therapy for children and teens who are victims or witnesses of domestic violence and sexual abuse. We believe that children who are victims and witnesses of abuse in their homes have a higher risk of failing academically, socially, and psychologically. Rese

arch shows male children who consistently see violence in the home are more likely to become batterers in their adult lives, and females are more likely to get involved with men who are batterers, or become abuser as well. The effects of domestic violence and sexual abuse amongst children and teens can be very detrimental to their lives, and our future society. According to Center for Disease and Control Prevention, 23% of females and 14% of males who ever experienced r**e, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner, first experienced some form of partner violence between 11 and 17 years of age. StandUp~SpeakOut believes through art ther**eutic programming, advocacy, education, leadership, and prevention we begin the process of breaking violent barriers and creating a world of people free from the psychological cycle of abuse.

❤️🖤💚 Happy Juneteenth

Juneteenth commemorates the day freedom finally reached those who had been denied it, reminding us that progress is not only measured by laws and milestones, but by how we continue to build a more just, compassionate, and equitable world.

SUSO recognizes that freedom takes many forms: the freedom to heal, the freedom to speak your truth, the freedom to feel safe, and the freedom to become who you were always meant to be.

Today, we honor the resilience, strength, and legacy of those who came before us, while recommitting ourselves to creating communities where every person has the opportunity to thrive.

💬 When you think of freedom today, what does it mean to you?

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month and the month we celebrate Father's Day. As an organization committed to healing, wellness, and community, SUSO NC wants to take a moment to intentionally honor the men and boys in our lives by dedicating our next Wellness Walk to our fellow brothers.

While SUSO will proudly support women, girls, survivors, and families throughout the year, we also recognize the importance of creating space for men to prioritize their mental health, build community, and engage in conversations around wellness and self-care.

Join us as we come together to walk, reflect, connect, and choose ourselves mind, body, and spirit.

Everybody asks, “What’s actually said in the shop?”
Brothers opened up. We talked pressure, healing, relationships, self-love, and the things men are usually judged for feeling.

So... we’re back tonight.
Pull up. Bring your voice. Bring your perspective.

Today we celebrate a powerful moment for SUSO and the work we continue to build together.

Our Founder & Executive Director, Monica Daye Williams, and Client Service Director, Monica Kearney, are in Queensbury, NY presenting at the 2026 Economic Empowerment Summit hosted by NYSCADV.

Being invited back is an opportunity and reflection of the impact of healing-centered work and the importance of creating spaces that challenge traditional approaches and center survivor dignity, lived experience, and community healing.

This year, they will share the HEAL Framework, a trauma-informed approach to economic empowerment that integrates wellness, advocacy, creativity, and survivor-centered practices.

From Durham to New York, we are proud to see SUSO helping shape conversations that extend beyond our community and into spaces where learning, connection, and transformation happen.

Join us in celebrating and wishing Monica Daye Williams and Monica Kearney an incredible presentation today.

💙 Planting seeds, building futures.

At SUSO NC, healing, growth, and empowerment start with creating spaces where young people feel seen, heard, and inspired.

We’re grateful for our continued partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Durham/Orange County and for incredible facilitators like and .0, who continue to show up with passion, purpose, and care for our youth.

Moments like these remind us that when we invest in young people, we invest in stronger communities, brighter futures, and lives full of possibility.

✨ The work is happening.
✨ The impact is growing.
✨ The future is watching.

“Our voices matter.”

Thank you to .nia.school for pulling up to the billboard and speaking from the heart.

Her message was a reminder that this work is about all of us... women, men, youth, families, and communities choosing to break silence and stand against sexual violence in every way.

As she beautifully said:

“This world will be a better place if we all use our voices.”

That’s what We Stand Up, We Speak Out is about.

Not carrying pain in silence. Not letting trauma define the story. Not allowing harmful cycles to continue unchecked.

To every survivor reading this:
Your voice matters. Your healing matters. You matter.

Thank you, .nia.school , for using your voice to help others do the same.

We Stand Up. We Speak Out.

I wear denim because…

…survivors deserve to be believed.
…silence should never protect harm.
…what someone wears is never an invitation.
…healing deserves community.
…and awareness must lead to action.

The SUSO team stood together in denim in recognition of Denim Day a movement that challenges harmful myths around sexual violence and stands in solidarity with survivors everywhere.

We wear denim to say clearly:

Victim blaming has no place here.
Support belongs here.
Healing belongs here.
Community belongs here.

To every survivor we see you.
We hear you.
We stand with you.

Join us by wearing denim, sharing your “because,” and helping move the conversation forward.

We Stand Up. We Speak Out.
