Soror Spotlight – May 2026

We proudly recognize our May Soror Spotlight, Soror Kathy Allen, whose life and service beautifully reflect our chapter theme: Cultivate, Educate, and Inspire.

A Fall 1973 Charter Initiate of the Kappa Sigma Chapter at East Carolina University, Soror Allen has dedicated her life to uplifting others through education, leadership, faith, and community service. A retired educator of nearly 35 years, she began her teaching career in Hyde County, North Carolina, and later retired from Warren County Schools, where she earned recognition at both the county and state levels for excellence in education and student achievement.

Since retirement, Soror Allen has continued serving the community through volunteer work with the Warren County Food Bank, the Vance County Democratic Party, and local branches of the Southern Baptist Convention, among others. Within the Oxford-Henderson Alumnae Chapter, she has faithfully served in several leadership roles, including Recording Secretary and Financial Secretary.

Whether mentoring others, supporting community initiatives, or serving those in need, Soror Allen continues to leave every space better than she found it. Through her lifelong commitment to service, she continues to cultivate meaningful change, educate through her example, and inspire all those around her.

Congratulations, Soror Kathy Allen, and thank you for your extraordinary example of sisterhood and service, and for your continued commitment to cultivate, educate, and inspire.

Happy Charter Day!!!!

The Oxford-Henderson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was established May 10, 1945, under the Greek letter name of Gamma Beta Sigma, with eight (8) charter members in the Oxford-Henderson area, with the town of Oxford, North Carolina, as the nucleus.

The charter members were Bessie Bizzelle Redding (President), Era G. Littlejohn (Recording Secretary), Dorothy Joyner Roberson (Corresponding Secretary), Andolia Oakley Eaton (Treasurer), Mabel J. Bryant, Ellain McGhee Brooks, Lee Alma Vaughn and Julia James Yancey.

During the week of August 17-23, 1958, at the Sorority's National Convention, the name was changed from the Greek letter name, Gamma Beta Sigma, to Oxford-Henderson Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, since members and reclaimants were from the Oxford-Henderson area, with Oxford remaining the nucleus as the original charter was established in Oxford, North Carolina.

The Chapter currently covers Franklin, Granville, Vance, and Warren counties in North Carolina and Clarksville, Virginia.

What’s On Your Crown?

Delta Academy's session on April 15, 2026, was nothing short of POWERFUL!

Our young ladies participated in a meaningful painting experience that went far beyond art; it was about identity, reflection, and storytelling. Each crown represented something unique: their foundation, responsibilities, pressures, gifts, and the environments shaping them.

We are so proud of each young lady for boldly sharing her truth and embracing her journey. This activity reminded us all that while life experiences shape our crowns, we each have the power to reshape and redefine our story at any time.

A special thank you to Latonia Oakley for leading such an inspiring and impactful session!
