In 1997, the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation joined with the College of Agricultural Science and Technology and the Ag One Foundation, both at California State University, Fresno, to honor women in agriculture who have chosen to make a major philanthropic difference in their communities and our world. The Common Threads Award recognizes individuals whose exemplary and extraordinary c
ontribution of time, energy and resources has enhanced those around them. In 2003, a second Common Threads awards program was initiated in conjunction with the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis, to expand and develop the mission of the original endeavor. While each program maintains specific and unique geographic criteria, the overall award qualifications are the same. Nominees should have past or present roots in agriculture and have shown outstanding involvement within the industry, as well as have made a difference through their charitable giving and volunteerism. The current Common Threads North steering committee is composed of representatives from the University of California, Davis, California State University, Chico, the California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom, the California Agricultural Leadership Foundation, the Resource Conservation District, California County Farm Bureaus, Butte Agriculture Foundation, Inc. and California Women for Agriculture. All of us welcome you, and thank you for joining our effort to recognize those women in agriculture whose selflessness and service have bettered our world.
