***SAVE THE DATE***

2023 marks 30 years of community, fellowship, mutual understanding, and solidarity between the people of San Ramón and all of the sister communities in the U.S. For those of you in the Triangle Area, we invite you to celebrate with us on April 22nd!

WHEN: Saturday, April 22nd, 3-5pm
WHERE: Durham Friends Meeting
404 Alexander Ave
Durham, NC 27705

Come young and old for an afternoon of celebration! Children and grandchildren welcome!

There will be a piñata, a treasure hunt, and gorgeous handmade San Ramón crafts and artisan chocolate for sale.

Larry Gomez, our popular ecotour planner and guide, will speak about what SCSRN has meant to him and what our ecotours over the past 24 years have meant to the many in San Ramon who provided home stays and activities.

We look forward to seeing you, our faithful community of supporters!

As we start off this 2023, we are very excited to share this news.
The isolated rural community of San Rafael, made up of agricultural workers and cattle farmers, will have for the first time their very own elementary school. This community is located 20 miles from the town of San Ramon, and it takes almost two hours to get there because of the poor quality of the roads. There is no electricity, and the nearest health post is 1.5 miles away.
For this school year, there are 37 children enrolled, with two teachers. In the past few years, they have attended class in a wooden shack built by the parents. Sometimes they have class outside under the trees.
With the construction of this school, children and future generations will have access to a better educational environment, and they will not need to worry about the sun or rain during the school year. Also, parents will feel encouraged to send their children to a school with the proper facilities, guaranteeing the benefits of education to their family’s future.

On Wednesday Sister Communities of San Ramon, Nicaragua celebrated our 30-year anniversary. The party included a band, singing, speeches/testimonials, a traditional dance number, signing a community book, and fellowship. It was a great time! After 30 years we show no signs of slowing down and are hopeful for what the coming years will bring.
