Thank you to everyone who joined us in Durham, NC for the 2026 NAVP Conference! 🙌 Two days of expert speakers, hands on learning, and meaningful conversations, all centered around improving vision health and care in our communities.

A special thank you to our incredible speakers, our sponsors, and the staff at Governor Morehead School for the Blind for welcoming us onto their campus. And of course, thank you to all of our members and attendees who showed up ready to learn and connect.

Two days of learning, connecting, and inspiration! 🎉 The 2026 NAVP Conference in Durham, NC brought vision professionals together for a packed lineup of education and hands on experience.

A Few Highlights included:

👁️ Dr. Dawn DeCarlo from Sight Savers America’s in depth eye anatomy demonstration, complete with hands on eye models.

👁️ Omar Mohiuddin (Duke Eye Center) sharing his expertise in Low Vision Rehabilitation, plus a look at helpful apps for the visually impaired (did you know your iPhone has a built in magnifier?)

🏫 A tour of Governor Morehead School for the Blind, where new superintendent Kathy Segars shared exciting renovation and expansion plans, and we got to see braille versions of so many great book titles in their library (fun fact: this is also where artist Ronnie Milsap attended school!)

👁️ Dr. Qiaohui Wei White on the latest evidence based outcomes for myopia control, an increasingly important topic as rates continue to rise.

🤝 A panel with Prevent Blindness NC on closing follow up gaps after vision screening

👁️ Dr. Samantha Southard’s update on treatment and management of amblyopia

👁️ Dr. Grace Prakalapakorn closing us out with a look at pediatric cataracts and management, and when surgery versus observation may be the best path forward.

Yesterday afternoon, we had the pleasure of touring the campus at Governor Morehead School for the Blind as part of the 2026 NAVP Conference. 🏫

New superintendent Kathy Segars shared exciting renovation and expansion plans in the works, aimed at providing even better facilities and opportunities for students. We also loved browsing their library and seeing braille versions of so many great book titles!

Fun fact: Governor Morehead School is also where renowned artist Ronnie Milsap attended school.

Thank you to the incredible staff for welcoming us and sharing your important work. 💙
