About the Exhibition
Presented in collaboration with Duke Arts, the Nasher Museum of Art, and Durham County Library, this exhibition is part of We the People: A Duke & Durham Initiative, a community-wide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The exhibition features three rare prints on loan from the David M. Rubenstein Americana Collection:
• An official, full-size 1823 facsimile engraved by William J. Stone, commonly known as a Stone Declaration
• An 1818 reproduction by calligrapher Benjamin Owen Tyler
• An ornate, illustrated 1819 version published by John Binns
Visitors can also explore interactive activities and discover related library resources displayed alongside these historic prints.

If the new movie The Odyssey spiked your interest in Greek mythology, we have some books for you at Books Among Friends. For the basics on the Greek gods and monsters, check out Edith Hamilton’s Mythology or Bulfinch’s Mythology. Go straight to the source in The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer. Explore the Greek tragedies, such as Antigone. The Anthology of Classical Myth by Stephen Trzaskoma features primary sources of the tales. You can also find more books in the Mythology section https://buff.ly/q6MrWTY

These characters and stories are evergreen, inspiring countless retellings and new tales. For younger readers, Rick Riordan wrote the Percy Jackson and the Trials of Apollo. For adults, there’s the spicy Neon Gods series by Katee Robert. Veronica Roth puts a dystopian spin on Antigone’s story in Arch-Conspirator. Christopher Golden wrote a modern-day thriller about Pandora’s famous box. Fans of graphic novels will enjoy George O’Connor’s Olympians series.
