Our Healing Forward Forum was simplay amazing! We heard from amazing presenters, those on the youth panel, and enjoyed a tie of fellowship as we built and grew together. Many thanks to our sponsors for helping make this event such a success, and to our team for their hard work!

Today we honor Malcolm X, a man who stood firmly in truth and called our people to know their worth, protect their dignity, and move with purpose. His voice was bold, his message was clear, and his love for Black people showed in his demand for justice and accountability.

His words still speak today. They remind us that our voices matter, our stories matter, and our communities deserve to be heard and supported.

At EPiC, this is the heart of our work. We create space for families to speak, to grow, and to advocate. We build community rooted in trust, truth, and collective strength. We believe that when people are informed, supported, and connected, real change happens.

Join DAEC, EPiC, and BE ME OT, as we learn from the Alliance Against Seclusion and Restraint’s Founder and Executive Director, Guy Stephens, why restraint and seclusion are dangerous, traumatizing practices, and what North Carolina families, educators, and advocates can do to reduce and eliminate their use in schools

We will examine how these practices disproportionately affect disabled, neurodivergent, Black, and Brown students—and how they contribute to long-term trauma and the school-to-prison pipeline. Participants will gain practical strategies to promote trauma-informed, neuroscience-aligned, neurodiversity-affirming, relationship-driven, and collaborative approaches in North Carolina schools, and will learn when restraint and seclusion are (and are not) permitted under North Carolina law and what concrete steps families can take if a student is restrained or secluded, including where to find local advocacy and legal support.

Registered participants will have access to a recording of the presentation. Register by visiting the link in bio!

This Independent Bookstore Day, we’re celebrating Liberation Station šŸ“ššŸ–¤

What began as a mother’s search for books reflecting her sons’ lives turned into something bigger. When Victoria Scott-Miller couldn’t find stories centered on Black children, she created a space where those stories exist, thrive, and inspire.

As visibility grew, so did even more challenges, but the community showed up. After hardship and closure, supporters raised over $70K to bring Liberation Station back. In 2025, it reopened with new passion rooted in Black history community and expanding its impact beyond books. More than a bookstore, it’s a testament to resilience, community care, and the power of Black stories.

Support Black stories. Support community.

Grateful for State Senator Natalie Murdock for introducing the Kids over Corporations legislation. She has always been a champion of our public schools while she supported call to action on May 1st.

The rally, organized by the North Carolina Association of Educators, is being billed as the ā€œKids Over Corporations Rallyā€ and is expected to be one of the largest public education demonstrations in state history. It will take place from 10 am to 3 pm at Halifax Mall in downtown Raleigh.

North Carolina ranks 1st in the nation for business but 50th in public school funding — on the heels of being the only state failing to pass a state budget yet.

Make it make sense. I didn’t think you could.

Grateful to be in Raleigh attending the 20th NC Black Alliance Summit. State Senator Kandie Smith said, ā€œwe can’t just wish for better schools. We have to do more than survive, but to build leaders.ā€ Her message aligns with EPiC’s work. We are here doing more than wishing at EPiCā€.
