NC has its hands full to address rural health...especially with major federal cuts to ACA plans and Medicaid tightening on the way. Plus, some legal residents losing Medicare coverage. This hurts folks living in rural NC most...and their providers, hospitals, rehab facilities, pharmacies, etc. Fortunately, great NC leadership to help do what we can to stop some of the suffering. Rosa María Carranza has worked and paid taxes for more than two decades, but a provision in the GOP's One Big Beautiful Bill Act will make her and an estimated 100,000 other lawfully present immigrant seniors ineligible for Medicare. Now Carranza’s once secure retirement is in question.

This is so critical and love that older adults are stepping up to advocate! Caregiving needs continue to grow. We need to help find more people willing to be direct care workers. Temporary protective status matters.

As the Supreme Court weighs the Trump administration's termination of Temporary Protected Status for Haitians and Syrians, seniors are advocating for protections for their immigrant caregivers.

We hosted our annual SHRED-A-Thon/Fraud Prevention event in collaboration with Medication Take back this past Saturday. The NC NC Department of Insurance SHIIP was the grantor that made it all possible!

Highlights:
-10,350 lbs. of paper were shredded
-the Sheriff's Department collected 373.4 lbs. of medications!

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers and staff leaders (Katrina Nesmith) for gathering a great crew including the following partners: Duke Trauma Center and Durham County Safe Kids, Durham County Sheriff's Office, Durham County Government - Durham County Department of Public Health, Alliance Health, NC Department of Insurance and the Office of State Fire Marshal, Insight Human Services, and AARP North Carolina AARP – Durham Chapter.
