Because of the support of our community, we were able to award a total of $12,300 to community organizations. We met with our 2026 pageant beneficiaries yesterday and donated $9000 to Keep Durham Beautiful and $3000 to Friends of Ellerbe Creek. Your votes and bribes made this possible and we can't thank everyone enough.

We started a new tradition in 2025 of making a donation from The Lodge to a nonprofit organization in the name of each contestant. The contestants get to choose since these donations are a thank-you gift from us. This year, contestants chose the following organizations to support:

Threshold Clubhouse
Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice
Independent Animal Rescue
Urban Ministries
Miracle League of The Triangle
Keep Durham Beautiful

We're sure that contestants would love for everyone to learn more about the organizations that they supported!

Hoping that some local nonprofits will partner with creative individuals hoping to put on arts events through this grant program.

For years, the bulk of DCAB's funding has gone to a few large events. New process changes may make the process more accessible.

DRAGONFLIES!

Who? What? Where? When? Why?

Using motion camouflage to attack prey and rivals...

Giant multifaceted compound eyes that can see in 360 degrees...

Predators in all life stages...consuming prey as large as tadpoles and small fish...

Gigantic prehistoric distant relatives had wingspans of up to 30 inches...

Flying at speeds of up to 18 miles per hour in six different directions and four types of flight...

Who are these insects that were among the first to evolve and exist with and before dinosaurs? What kind of prey do they eat? Where do dragonflies live? When do female dragonflies feign death? Why are dragonflies iridescent?

Join Chris Goforth, head of Collaborative Science at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, to learn more about these maestros of flight!

On Tuesday July 28 starting at 6 p.m. in the Durham County Main Library auditorium located at 300 North Roxboro Street in Durham.
