Please join us in welcoming the newest members of the Durham Arts Council team!

Lulu Clark (she/her) joins us as our contracted Rentals Coordinator, bringing years of event planning experience and a passion for connecting artists, businesses, and the community through meaningful creative experiences.

Cam Saverino (all pronouns) joins DAC as an APPLES Service-Learning Intern from UNC Chapel Hill. As a writer, actor, and art historian, Cam is excited to support local artists and learn more about the work that powers Durham's creative community.

Rakai Whittaker (she/her) joins us as a Seasonal Summer Camp Assistant. A visual arts teacher in Durham, Rakai is passionate about helping young people explore their creativity, build confidence, and grow through the arts.

We are so excited to have Lulu, Cam, and Rakai on board this summer and look forward to the contributions they will make to Durham's creative community!

Let's give a warm welcome to Lulu Clark, our new Rentals Coordinator!

Lulu Clark is a creative professional, community connector, and advocate for “living life in color.” With a background in fashion design, merchandising, marketing, and art life coaching, she began her entrepreneurial journey at 16 by launching her first event coordinating business and has since supported events across the fashion, music, film, and sports industries. After relocating from New York to North Carolina, she reconnected with her passion for the arts through the Durham Arts Council, where she now serves as Rentals Coordinator, building partnerships and creating meaningful experiences that strengthen Durham’s creative community.

Looking to rent space at the DAC? Lulu will be your guy! We've got spaces for weddings, conferences, meeting rooms, and even dance studios! Email Lulu at [email protected] or visit https://durhamarts.org/facility/ for more information.

Scholarships are available for art classes and camps at the DAC!

Partial scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need for adult and youth students interested in classes and camps, as funds are available. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. To request a scholarship application, please email Arts Education Assistant Manager, Wendy Leigh, at [email protected]. Please allow 2-3 weeks for application processing.

Scholarships for youth camps are generously provided by support from the Fox Family Foundation, the Durham Merchants Association Charitable Foundation, Sheetz, and individual donors.

Scholarships for visual arts classes for adults and youth are generously provided by the Arlene Hyman Visual Arts Scholarship Fund, established in 2014 following her passing. The fund is intended to help others — whether children or adults — discover or advance their love of the visual arts. Arlene Hyman, always a lover of the arts, was a member of the Pastel Societies of New Jersey and North Carolina and her work had been juried into numerous exhibitions. After relocating to Chapel Hill in 2011, Arlene continued her studies at the Durham Arts Council and elsewhere in the region. Additional support provided by individual donors.

Looking to support arts education? Donate to the Janet Bell Scholarship fund at https://secure.qgiv.com/for/janetbellscholarshipfund/ to become an individual donor!

Our first CAPS@DAC event was so fun! The Magic of African Rhythm stuck to their namesake and really showed us the magic ✨

Families watched the live performance and then got to join in on the fun by learning some rhythm on the drums and even learned a few dance moves!

It was such a great time and we can’t wait for the next one. Save the date for June 27 as we bring you Sina De Capoiera

ARTS Day Recap 🎨

The Durham Arts Council and community showed up for ARTS Day ready to learn, listen, and advocate for the arts! We were so grateful to have time with Senator Chitlik and representatives from the office of Representative Zach Hawkins, Marsha Morey, and Vernetta Alston.

We couldn’t have done it without the amazing support from our community, thank you to Kidznotes, Mallarmé Music, American Dance Festival, Durham Public School, Triangle Artworks, Paint 4 Wellness, Hillary and Emily Ensminger, Elin Waren, Jose Cruz, and Catherine Johnson.

Don’t forget y’all, the arts are important! Make a difference by showing up, listening, and being an advocate for the things that matter to you ❤️
