Family Connects Durham is once again visiting new moms in person at Duke Regional Hospital — right at the bedside. 💙 Our nurses and program staff are connecting with families, explaining our free home visiting program, and helping Durham’s newest parents start their journey with confidence.

We had such a great time connecting with families at the community baby shower hosted by MAAME, Inc. last week! 🤱🏾👶🏽
We are so grateful to MAAME for creating a welcoming space to support and uplift expectant and new families in our community. 🫶🏽

Family Connects Durham is very excited to share that in addition to our earlier award recognition by Breastfeed Durham, we have now received the Community Partner Award from the North Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition for 2025! NCBC runs a number of ongoing breastfeeding advocacy programs including the Golden Bow (Ban the Bags) campaign, and Breastfeeding Friendly Workplaces and Businesses. You do not need to be an NCBC member to participate in these advocacy programs.

We are so proud of Cherise and lucky to have her on our team!

Cherise has been an outstanding member of Family Connects Durham for over 2 years. Cherise is a quick learner and self-starter. She completed her studies in lactation education and earned her IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) shortly after joining FC Durham. She shows initiative in searching out current research and is always expanding her nursing knowledge. She additionally worked at COVID vaccine clinics during the height of the pandemic and volunteered as a doula with MAAME (Mobilizing African American Mothers by Empowerment). She is passionate about improving Black Maternal Health outcomes. The FC Durham team has learned so much from Cherise and values her honesty and commitment to the community. Cherise is a RISING STAR and a future leader.
