Mental health stigma still prevents many people in Latino communities from seeking support, asking questions, or even talking openly about what they’re experiencing. That’s why conversations, education, and culturally responsive care matter.

We’re honored to be featured in Vaya Health’s recent article on reducing stigma and improving access to mental health care. The article highlights the importance of creating spaces where people feel seen, understood, and supported.

At El Futuro, we remain committed to raising awareness around mental health stigma and helping our communities know that seeking support is a sign of strength — not shame.

We invite you to read the article and continue learning with us. 💚

Learn about the effectiveness of mental health supports and treatment, reducing societal stigma around mental health, and recognizing and celebrating Mental Health Awareness Month.

May is almost over, but you still have the opportunity to be part of this journey. If you’re still wondering what Blooming Together means, we invite you to zoom in on the image and read what Mary Jones, our Director of Client and Care Engagement, shared with us. We particularly loved when she said, “We do more than grow side by side; we brighten people’s days, soften difficult moments… One million flowers can change the world.”

You can help change the world with your support TODAY! Every donation counts.

On May 14th we welcomed Duke University’s Re-Imagining Medicine students to El Futuro for conversations about culture, community, storytelling, and what it truly means to humanize health care. 💚

Through personal stories, shared experiences, and a tour of our Durham clinic and Therapeutic Green Space, students explored how culturally responsive care is built with communities — not just for them.

We believe the future of health care depends on providers who understand trust, belonging, and the lived experiences of the people they serve. Grateful to be part of shaping that future together. Duke University

El Futuro was proud to be part of the “Trustworthy Translation – Stories of Today, Visions of Tomorrow” symposium at Duke University, hosted by the Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute and the Duke Clinical Research Institute, where our Director of Clinical Enhancement Services, Molly Hayes, led a session titled “Mi Voz, Nuestra Salud: Investigación liderada por la comunidad para apoyar la salud mental de adolescentes latinos.”

Conducted in Spanish with English interpretation, the session highlighted the importance of community-led research and the need to include Latino adolescents, families, and community voices in shaping mental health solutions, and included a vibrant panel discussion with project participants:

🌺 África Dutor Noguera, Dual Language Specialist & Magnet Site Coordinator, Durham Public Schools

🌺 Karina Almeida, Promotora de Salud/Health Coach en Nutrición Emocional

🌺 Mercedes McCurly, Senior Program Manager, Family Engagement, Durham Public Schools Foundation

We are honored to see El Futuro represented in spaces where community knowledge, cultural understanding, and trusted partnerships are recognized as essential to advancing mental health research and care for Latino communities. 💙

El Futuro’s ADHD team recently presented a webinar on Culturally Responsive Approaches for the Latino Community and Students with ADHD hosted by Immigrant Learning Center.

During this training, our team shared strategies to help educators better understand and respond to the needs of Latino students with ADHD and their families, with a focus on cultural responsiveness and practical support in educational settings.

We appreciate the opportunity to contribute to this important conversation and to continue building tools that support more equitable and effective learning environments.

Construction workers face some of the highest risks for substance use and overdose in the U.S. workforce, yet this issue is still often addressed only after a crisis.

On May 21st, El Futuro convened construction leaders, safety professionals, and behavioral health experts across North Carolina to focus on prevention and action.

Key realities shared:
• Construction has one of the highest overdose death rates of any industry
• About 1 in 7 construction workers lives with a substance use disorder
• Substance use impacts safety, turnover, and productivity across the industry

Hosted by El Futuro and sponsored by and Talbert Building Supply, the panel focused on practical solutions that can be implemented on job sites, including training, prevention education, stronger response protocols, and access to bilingual, culturally responsive care.

El Futuro is working with employers and partners across 60+ counties to bring mental health and substance use prevention into the spaces where people work. We believe that prevention has to happen before crisis!
