Legacy looks like showing up.
The Wallace L. Umstead Legacy Cookout was another beautiful day of food, music, fellowship, and community at Canterbury House in Roxboro, NC.

This year was especially meaningful as family members joined us as volunteers, helping us continue a tradition created in honor of Wallace L. Umstead.
We were grateful to have our partners at AuthoraCare Collective join us, and even more grateful to see the residents enjoying the meal, music, laughter, and fellowship.

We were also honored to welcome the Mayor of Roxboro, who stopped by to spend time with the residents and fellowship with us.

At Misstakenid Gives Back Foundation, we believe service is about more than meeting a need. It is about creating moments where people feel seen, valued, and connected.

That is the kind of legacy we are proud to carry forward.

The Wallace L. Umstead Legacy Cookout. A meal. A memory. A moment of community.

What a beautiful day of legacy, love, and fellowship.

This year’s Wallace L. Umstead Legacy Cookout was truly special.
We had family members volunteer alongside us, making the day even more meaningful as we honored my Dad, Wallace L. Umstead, by doing what he believed in most: showing up for people and bringing folks together.

Our amazing partners, AuthoraCare Collective, were there to fellowship with the residents and help make the day possible. The residents of Canterbury House enjoyed a good meal, great music, plenty of smiles, and of course, a little dancing and fun!

And we were honored to have the Mayor of Roxboro stop by and fellowship with us as well.
This cookout is more than an event. It is a reminder that legacy is not just what we leave behind. It is what we continue to give, how we continue to serve, and the people we continue to bring together.
Dad, we’re still shaking things up.

Thank you to our family, volunteers, partners, supporters, and everyone who helped make this year’s Legacy Cookout another beautiful day at Canterbury House.

Carrying Forward a Legacy of Love: The Annual Wallace L. Umstead Legacy Cookout Returns Sept 11, 2026!

Some legacies are built through titles or accomplishments. Other's are built through kindness, generosity, and the way someone makes people feel. The Annual Wallace L. Umstead Legacy Cookout is one of those legacies. This event was my father Wallace "Wally" Umstead's idea. He believed our seniors and veterans deserved to be celebrated, appreciated, and surrounded by community. He understood that sometimes the greatest gift we can give is simply showing up, sharing a meal, and reminding someone that they matter....
