I talk to community members every day who don't know what to do—or to not do—when interacting with law enforcement. Knowing your rights is the first step to being able to use them effectively.

And this isn't legal theory. These are your rights regardless of immigration or citizenship status, and they exist to protect all of us from overreach by law enforcement.

Pride isn’t just a celebration—it’s how we remember those who fought for dignity, for safety, and for the right to live and love freely.

Pride reminds us that justice isn’t given—it’s demanded, especially by those the law once excluded. It reminds us that for too many people, and for far too long, the law has been a weapon when it should have been a shield.

At North Carolina Legal Services, we serve LGBTQ+ clients every day who are fighting to keep their jobs, their kids, their homes, and their healthcare. We see the impact of anti-queer policies not as abstract debates—but as daily injustices.

This Pride Month, we stand with our clients, our staff, and our community in the fight for full equality. Not just in the law—but in the lives we’re building together.

🌈 Justice belongs to everyone—let’s look out for each other.

Your child has rights—and so do you.

If your child has a disability and struggles in school, they may be entitled to support through an IEP (Individualized Education Program). But what happens when schools delay, deny, or mishandle that process?

Too many families in North Carolina are told to wait, told their child is “doing fine,” or shut out of decisions. That’s not just frustrating—it may be a violation of the law.

At North Carolina Legal Services, we believe families deserve more than confusion. You deserve answers.

We’ve created a free guide to help you recognize the most common IEP violations in North Carolina—so you can protect your child’s education and stand in your full legal power.

Fairness Helps Us All—DEI Is Not a Zero-Sum Game

Too often, efforts to create fairness and inclusion are framed as if they come at someone else’s expense. But that’s not how equity works. When we remove barriers and create real opportunities for everyone, we build stronger workplaces, communities, and systems that benefit all of us.

At North Carolina Legal Services, we see this firsthand. Fairness isn’t about taking from one to give to another—it’s about ensuring everyone has an equal shot at success.
