BCT is the Durham Chapter of the NC Wildlife Federation. The mission of NCWF is to protect, conserve and restore NC wildlife and habitat.

NCWF has been working for wildlife and habitat in our state and advocating for outdoor enthusiasts since 1945.

MLK Day of Service complete!
Just a personal cleanup around my neighborhood and Shepard Middle School today. 1.6 miles covered and 6 bags of trash collected.

On the scene as a Tree Keeper volunteering with and the AKAs for a Tree Giveaway in the Bull City.
The focus this year is on households within Justice 40 census tracts. Residents who registered for a tree came by today to pick them up. There are a limited amount of trees available for walk ups.

Funding for this giveaway was provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and the USDA Forest Service, Urban and Community Forestry Program in partnership with the . These institutions are equal opportunity providers.

cul-du-sac at the end of anacosta st was trashed so i got why i could while waking the dogs this morning, then went back for the rest at lunch time. 2 18gal bags. total weight 22lbs.

Out with tha pups for their morning walk and it was BRICK (24°F), but I was geared up with snow pants and Uggs🥶🔥🙌🏾
I’ve been challenging myself to take the grabber and bucket on EVERY single walk, and i’ve had about 75% success rate. For December, I’ve decided to challenge myself to post each day to document my Adopt-a-Street cleanups.
There are two miles of adopted streets and we usually cover them all on our walks, over the course of the month. We’ll see how well I fare as the December temps settle in.
Total trash collected today was 8lbs.

found these feathers during my morning walk and cleanup. feather identification app says that the one on the right is a blue jay feather. i’m thinking the one on the left is also blue jay, but from a different part of the wing. any bird enthusiasts out there who can confirm or deny?
apparently bird feathers are protected, but i didn’t harvest these…just found the. on the ground by a picnic table, amongst the leaves.

super spooky find this morning during part 2 of cleanup at Shepard Middle School. I came across a black widow spider hidden near the armpit of a coat i was hoping to pick up!😱😱😱
huge spider and as it crawled away, i couldn’t see the red marking on the underside. google identified it from the pics i took in nice it was safely encased in a jar.
friendly reminder to always wear your PPE (personal protective equipment) when doing cleanups. you never know what you might find!
returning this lady to the wild, where she belongs!

Every day is trash day for Bull City Trailblazers! So far, this week, I’ve collected almost 30 lbs of trash from the designated BCT Adopt-a-Street footprint.
I challenge myself daily to take a bag and grabber when I go out to walk my dogs. There hasn’t been a day that i’ve walked them that I haven’t seen trash that needs to be collected, so I’m working to make it a daily practice.
Every little bit makes a difference.

Bull City Trailblazers Big Sweep litter cleanup at Shepard Magnet Middle School today was a success. Just a party of one (apologies for the late heads up) but i collected 120 lbs of trash on and around the school grounds. I will look to make this a monthly cleanup along with my Adopt-A-Street route. Stay tuned for more deets.

while out walking my four-legged trailblazers on the rocky creek trail yesterday, we all caught a glimpse of this blue heron preening in a section of the creek that still needs a bit of love.
thankfully, a boy scout troop is already scheduled to clean sections of the creek behind elmira avenue park on april 15th. 😊
