This month, Southern Documentary Fund proudly celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and the storytellers whose voices continue to shape documentary filmmaking and cultural conversations across the South and beyond.

We honor the filmmakers, artists, organizers, and communities whose stories challenge perspectives, preserve history, and inspire change. Thank you for sharing narratives that deepen our understanding of identity, resilience, family, migration, culture, and belonging.

This AAPI Heritage Month, Southern Documentary Fund is proud to celebrate the filmmakers and storytellers sharing powerful stories of resilience, identity, memory, migration, spirituality, family, and community.

From the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in After the Flood, to the deeply spiritual journey explored in Wild Yogi, to the remarkable legacy of Chinese American engineer Martin F. Jue, these films reflect the richness and complexity of AAPI experiences through documentary storytelling.

We honor the makers who continue to preserve culture, challenge perspectives, and expand conversations through nonfiction film. Thank you for sharing stories that remind us of the strength found in perseverance, tradition, and connection to place.
