💰 Today is National Black Women’s Equal Pay Day 💰

It’s not just a date—it’s a reminder that Black women still have to work nearly 7 extra months to catch up to what White, non-Hispanic men made last year.

👩🏾‍⚕️ In healthcare, Black women are overrepresented on the frontlines and underrepresented in leadership—yet paid less.

This isn’t about asking for a handout.
It’s about being compensated fairly for the excellence we already deliver.

🗣️ Speak up. Stand out. Support one another.

Last week, the North Carolina Organization of Nurse Leaders held their Spring 2025 conference in beautiful Greensboro, NC. A panel took place, titled “Broadening Horizons,” during which a timely discussion on the topic of diversity, equity, and inclusion was had. Our very own CCBNC members, Dr. Ernest Grant, Angeline Baker, and Darlene Cooper participated in this incredibly important conversation. It was a pleasure to convene with other like-minded organizations, including the Indian American Nurses Association of North Carolina and the Philippine Nurses Association of North Carolina! Now, more than ever, we must uplift the voices of marginalized groups and continue to emphasize the vital roles that diversity, equity, and inclusion play in healthcare and beyond.

Happy Valentine’s Day! As we recognize this feelgood holiday, we must also continue to raise awareness about the other heart-related topic dedicated to this month.
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality in all Americans, and a glaring disparity exists in the impact of this disease on the Black community. Did you know that Black folks are about 50% more likely to perish from cardiovascular disease-related complications compared to White folks?
CCBNC is dedicated to continuing to bring attention to this reality, and we look forward to addressing this disparity through continued advocacy, education, and health promotion.

As we prepare for our next chapter meeting, let’s recap on our annual retreat! Recently, CCBNC gathered for our annual level setting gathering led by our President and Vice President, Kiana and Katrice, and boy did we have a great time planning, learning, and socializing. Just look at all of those smiling faces!

Engage. Empower. Excel. Expand. These are the themes which will guide CCBNC as an organization for 2025. There are many great things to come. Stay tuned and we’ll see you at our next meeting this weekend!
