Women Who Care

Women Who Care We are Women Who Care of Durham County and this is our page - your main source for upcoming meetings! WHAT DOES A MEETING LOOK LIKE? Majority wins.

Our Mission is To Be The Change We Wish to See In Our Community. $100 at a time. Women Who Care of Durham County (WWCDC) is a newly formed group of caring women who meet for one hour, four times a year to benefit our local community. Any woman willing to commit to donating $400 a year, $100 given out at four one-hour meetings can join. Donations will be given to local charities, nonprofit organiza

tions or other “worthy causes” serving the Durham community. Any member can request donations to a favorite charity. At each quarterly meeting, members with a charity nomination put their name in a hat. Three names are drawn at random and those three members each have 5 minutes to talk about their charity. Members then vote for one of the three charities and the majority rules. Checks for $100 from each member are written directly to the organization chosen. At future meetings, organizations that have received funding will be asked to provide 10 minute presentations about the impact of the donation. We are committed to show the value of your time - meetings will not go over 1 hour! Nominated organizations should be a registered 501c3, and one within Durham County limits. HOW TO NOMINATE A CHARITY

Come prepared to enter the charity's name and your name into the drawing at the beginning of the meeting, 3 charities will then be drawn for presentations. If chosen, you will present (5 minutes) on the charity, what they do, and what the money would be used for. Must be a charity in Durham County limits and be a registered 501(c)3. Ensure that you know how checks should be made out for that particular organization. Have a contact person at the organization. After the 3 presentation, a vote will be taken of those in attendance and a charity will be chosen. WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! Come join like-minded women who want to be the change we wish to see in our community. It takes only one hour four times per year and other chapters have made significant strides in their communities. We are excited to bring this concept to the Durham area!

A quick recap of our July 11 Meeting:

Our winner of the night was the Durham Nativity School. This private school is dedicated to providing a learning environment and nurturing support system to middle school aged boys who are determined to excel academically, but may lack the means for a high quality education. Please go to durhamnativity.org to learn more, and to make a donation if you are interested. Go to Online Donations, and if possible, note Women Who Care in the Comment section.

We also learned about Caramore Community Inc. This community non profit works with adults who suffer from persistent severe mental illness. The organization's mission is to help guide them to stable and independent lives. You can find out more by going to caramore.org.

And we heard about Strongher Together and it's new program VillageHERs. We have supported this group before. Remember our last July meeting when some of the girls in the program spoke about the group? Very memorable. If you'd like to learn more, please go to stronghertogether.org.

We are making a difference in Durham and Orange counties ladies, and we appreciate your support!

Our next meeting will be at 5:30 pm on Thursday, October 3rd at the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill. We hope to see you there!

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Since 1996, CCFH responds to the terrible reality for victims & witnesses of community and household violence, child abuse, life threats, death of a family member, and other traumas and losses with compassion and evidence-based interventions grounded in rigorous research.

The heart of their work is the compassionate care provided to traumatized children in outpatient trauma-focused treatment. Through prevention efforts, they equip families to create safe, nurturing environments for their children through home visits and other intensive supports. Each year, these direct services reach more than 2,000 children and their families in Durham and surrounding communities.
