Book Harvest

Book Harvest Books for every child. Support for every parent. Literacy for every community.

Book Harvest works to realize a world of literacy and justice for all—a world in which every child grows up with an abundant home library from birth and with a love of books, reading, and learning, and every parent feels supported, celebrated, and affirmed in their role as their child’s first teacher. Since 2011, children and families have harvested more than 2.5 million books to build their home

libraries and to ensure that parents have the tools and power to ignite and strengthen their children’s literacy. With programs that are grounded in evidence, Book Harvest believes that literacy starts at birth, in the home, powered by parents, and nourished with books.

"I want to read to my sisters so they can be smart and a genius, just like me." 📖

Meet Ari (who you've already seen in many of our videos!) and her family in The Leon Levine Foundation's recent video about their commitment of $10M to build literacy-rich environments in homes across the Carolinas. We were so excited to see Ari and her mother, Tiara, featured - Tiara is a longtime member of our Book Harvest family and one of the fiercest literacy champions we know.

Read more about their incredible family and The Leon Levine Foundation's commitment to book abundance in our new blog post. 💛

Throughout Books on Break season, watching a child pick out 10 of their very own books never gets old - and it doesn’t happen without the incredible educators who make it possible.

The amazing teachers, literacy coaches, parents, and volunteers who guide children through their Books on Break experience don’t just show up for the program; they also show up every single day as literacy champions for the children in their lives. Thank you for being the heart of this work. 💛

Book Harvest is seeking a Chief Financial Officer who will bring to the organization a proactive, strategic, and curious mind. With revenues now on track to exceed $10M, a presence in five states, and a national movement in motion, we need a financial leader who asks “how do we make this possible” — not who works from “why we can’t.”

The CFO will also bring the rigor of a best-in-class audit and grant compliance operation while serving as a thought partner to the CEO, C-Suite, and Board of Directors on the financial strategy that enables bold, responsible, and sustainable growth.

Ideal candidate expertise:
✔️ CPA (strongly preferred) with 12+ years of progressive financial leadership, with at least eight years managing full-scope finance for a nonprofit with revenues exceeding $10 million.
✔️ Expert in nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, grant compliance, and audit processes
✔️ A people leader with high emotional intelligence and strong coaching instincts
✔️ Passion for literacy, equity, and expanding opportunity for every child

Compensation & Benefits: $119,000–$139,300 (experience-based), health/dental/vision insurance, 401(k), generous PTO, Paid Family Leave, Employee Assistance Program, short- and long-term disability insurance, and a mission-driven culture. Remote-friendly, with preference for candidates in central North Carolina.
