I’ve always have eaten a large variety of food and quantity. My chemo infusions have cut my appetite, but I still dream.

“Find time and a way to laugh and enjoy life.”

I Like to Eat!
Anything, dead or alive, I eat it.
It’s in my genes and my stomach.

Why do I eat as I do?
I don’t know,
just let me eat.

Leave me alone
in misery or
angel food
cake ecstasy.

Honestly, I don’t
Know why.
I just eat.

I wrote several social media posts last week about “What’s Your Mantra?” and had an enthusiastic response. I said my new mantra is, “Rush Patiently into the Unknown; Clarity will Slowly Emerge.” The actual post in the Bull Pen is here: https://bit.ly/4zAM5FO

It wasn’t until today that I realized that’s not my mantra. It’s “Trust God.” The one I previously posted is just a façade of the real thing—Jesus Christ. It may be my slogan for living or quick catchy phrase, but it is certainly not my mantra or what stand for.

My real mantra—trusting in God—was tested last week. That trust got me through a medical hell week of daily two-hour clinical chemo infusions, twice a day home stomach chemo injections, and two new daily infection pills.

My trust in God gives me all the truth, energy, and hope that I need to face anything in life.

Do you have a mantra or a central belief? If so, what is it? If not, I encourage you to think about this and I would love to hear your thoughts.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

– Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

Do You Live In A "Gray World," Without Trusting God?

If today’s message about trusting God resonates with you, I encourage you to check out our study “Personal Journey & Purpose.” It explores how we can discover and walk in the unique path God has for us — learning to trust His leading instead of relying only on our own plans or understanding.

FROM THE BULL PEN #1
Why Am I Starting This at 82?

I've spent a lifetime accumulating experiences. Some successful. Some painful. Some downright stupid.

“At 82, I've finally figured out what to do with them.”

FROM THE BULL PEN #2
I Got This One Wrong!

Playing doubles tennis on Sunday mornings. Getting my knee drained of blood on Monday.

“Knowing what to do or not to do doesn’t replace stupidity.”

Car Wash Siesta

Clean cars.
Rested minds.
Temporary friends .
A brief reprise.
A quick prize
of rest.

Rest from,
from errands.
From stop lights
and pesky friends.
A few moments to
think leisurely,
read casually,
gaze slowly.

Clean cars and
clear minds.

So much for
so little.

The gray world turns us inward to avoid anything causing pain and loss. We wrap ourselves in a blanket of perceived protection hoping we won’t get hurt.

I lived in this world but eventually realized it is a slow death.

The poem records when I realized I had created in my own gray world. Have you had any feelings like this? Marsh

My Gray World

I live in a gray world.
My life is blurred,
I am confused.

I live in a gray world
but I am confused.
It’s feels good to be
alive but I miss the
pain of a genuine life.

I want black back in my life
and white light in my eyes again.
I need pain in my heart but
peace in my soul.

I must survive the darkness
to soar in the light again.
I must escape the death
of a gray world.

Gray is an average of two colors.
We can’t live on the “average.”
Life is not average.
Life is hopeful.
and painful.

Live in the darkness of life’s
existence, but accept the
brilliance of His love.

God’s love is never gray.

The Fourth of July is a wonderful time to celebrate the independence and freedom of our nation. It’s also a powerful reminder to pause and reflect on the ultimate source of the blessings we enjoy.

As we honor the freedoms we have as Americans, let us also give thanks for the deeper, lasting freedom we have in Jesus Christ.

🌟 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” — 2 Corinthians 3:17 🌟

This powerful verse reminds us that true freedom is found in our relationship with God. Through Christ, we are set free from the bo***ge of sin and given the gift of eternal life.

On this Independence Day, may we celebrate with grateful hearts — both for our nation and for the spiritual freedom we have in Christ. Let’s cherish time with family and friends, pray for our country and its leaders, and ask God to help us use our freedom wisely for His glory, justice, and peace.

God bless you all, and Happy Fourth of July!

We can’t be afraid of change or fear the unknown. If we don’t keep advancing forward, we stagnate, like running in place. By not journeying forward in life, we can retreat into darkness and loneliness. Blessings my friends, Marsh

Our Life’s Journey!

Journey, powerful word.
Why?

Journey implies change,
going from one place to another.
Traveling away from the past,
moving from the present
into the future.

Our life’s journey is the
lifeblood of our existence.
Without journey, our life
stands still going
nowhere.

Not moving is stagnation.
Neither moving forward
nor backward.

Without journey, we’re
the walking dead.

We can take a physical
journey or a mental one.

Does it matter?
Every journey brings us
into the Light of Life.
