The ASH Foundation

The ASH Foundation The event was established to bring together motorcyclists for a charitable cause, collecting toys for children in need during the holiday season.

Based in Durango, Colorado, the ASH Foundation's mission is to increase the quality of life of children and families in need through acts of service, kindness, and financial support throughout the Four Corners. The Iron Horse Toy Run in Durango, Colorado, has a rich history spanning over three decades, originating from the efforts of ABATE (A Brotherhood Active Towards Education), a motorcycle rig

hts organization. Over time, the organization and management of the Toy Run transitioned to the Iron Horse Harley Owners Group (HOG) Chapter. This group continued the tradition, fostering community involvement and expanding the event's reach. In recent years, leadership of the Toy Run was assumed by Trevor and Catie Bird, co-owners of Durango Harley-Davidson. The Birds have been instrumental in revitalizing the event, bringing fresh energy and ideas. Under their guidance, the Toy Run has seen increased participation and community engagement. In 2024, Trevor Bird shared on Instagram, "Congrats on the best Toy Run yet and an amazing start to the new Ash Foundation 501(c)3!"

The establishment of the ASH Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, marked a significant evolution in the Toy Run's history. This foundation, led by the Birds, aims to further the charitable impact of the event, ensuring that the Toy Run continues to benefit children and families in the four corners area for years to come. Throughout its 32-year history, the Iron Horse Toy Run has exemplified the spirit of giving and community solidarity. From its inception by ABATE to its current stewardship under the ASH Foundation, the event has remained a cherished tradition in Durango, bringing joy to countless children during the holiday season.

This was last year.

A tree surrounded by toys donated by people in this community to help make Christmas a little more magical for local kids and families.

Now let’s see if we can top it in 2026.

More toys. More families helped. More kids waking up excited on Christmas morning.

Join us Sunday, October 4 for the 34th Annual Toy Run Before Christmas and help us make an even bigger impact throughout the Four Corners region this holiday season.

MEET THE BOARD // Trevor Bird

Co-founder Trevor Bird brings decades of nonprofit leadership and a lifelong passion for helping children and families in need to The ASH Foundation.

Before co-founding The ASH Foundation, Trevor spent more than 10 years serving as Executive Director and Treasurer of For the Love of Kids and Harleys, a nonprofit founded by George Strait and local San Antonio business leaders. During his time there, the organization donated more than $3 million to children’s charities.

Over the years, Trevor has also served on multiple nonprofit boards and has been recognized with honors including the President’s Award from Easter Seals and the Angel Award from St. Jude’s.

Alongside his wife and fellow co-founder, Catie Bird, Trevor helps lead The ASH Foundation with a focus on supporting children and families throughout the Four Corners region.

When he’s not working with The ASH Foundation or at Durango & Silverton Harley-Davidson, you’ll usually find Trevor riding motorcycles, snowboarding, or spending time with his family.

We’re proud to have leaders who care deeply about giving back to the community they call home.

This is what community support looks like.

The ASH Foundation is proud to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of SW Colorado and the incredible work they do mentoring and empowering local youth.

Programs like this create lasting impact far beyond childhood — building confidence, connection, guidance, and opportunity for the next generation.

We’re grateful to play a small part in helping organizations like this continue making a difference in our community.

Because giving back has always been what this is all about.

We were honored to attend the Big Gala yesterday evening to support and their youth mentorship initiatives. The purposeful and intentional mentorship they provide to the kids of our community is truly selfless and highly impactful. Hearing stories straight from littles and their bigs of how Big Brother Big Sisters has positively impacted each of their lives is truly inspiring. Perhaps YOU have the ability to touch a life of a young person. Become a “big” or support their mission through a donation. In their words: it only takes a little to be big. 😉 🙌🏻
