Parker's Animal Rescue Adoption fees and policies are on our website.

Please call (970) 769-2584 to ensure we are in-office at that time. Parker's Animal Rescue (formerly Lisa Parker's Puppies) strives to place puppies in the correct home after having them in loving foster homes where they are crate trained, work on house training, and taught basic obedience. Parker's Animal Rescue strives to rescue, foster and find permanent loving homes for abandoned dogs and puppies in La Plata County and the rural Four Corners. The overriding principles of the organization are 1) to educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering, and 2) educate pet owners on the proper stewardship and training of animals. 🐾 WELCOME TO THE PAR BOARD, SHAY! 💙

We're excited to officially welcome Shay Ohrel to PAR's Board of Directors!

Shay brings more than 20 years of experience in the energy industry, where he's built a career around fostering relationships, solving problems, and finding solutions that benefit everyone involved. He currently serves as Vice President of Structured Origination for Mothership Energy.

Originally from a cattle ranch in Southern Arizona, Shay found his way to Durango through Fort Lewis College, where he spent plenty of time pursuing his passions for snowboarding and rock climbing. Today, he calls Durango home alongside his wife, Jessica, their twin 11-year-old daughters, and two pups — including a PAR alum adopted in the summer of 2025! 🐶

As a board member, Shay is passionate about ensuring PAR has the resources and support needed to continue growing our mission and making a lasting difference for animals, families, and our community.

We're grateful to have Shay's experience, perspective, and passion for our mission on the team as we work toward an exciting future for PAR.

Double the cuteness, double the kitten love! 🥹💛

Say hello to Patches and Ash, two ridiculously adorable 6-week-old brothers who are officially on the lookout for their foster-to-adopt families! 🏡

These tiny little guys have a whole lot of growing, learning, and loving ahead of them, and we'd love for them to experience it all in homes of their very own!

🐾 Meet Liam! A fun-loving, affectionate boy with a clever mind and a whole lot of personality! 💛

Liam is the kind of dog who makes everyday life a little more entertaining. He's social, playful, incredibly smart, and always ready for his next adventure! Whether he's exploring outside, playing with squeaky toys, or rolling around in the mud (one of his finer moments, according to his foster 😂), Liam knows how to have a good time.

And he's got the brains to match that personality! 🧠 His foster describes him as an incredibly fast learner who's already making wonderful progress with basic commands and household manners. He knows his name, understands several household boundaries, and is doing well on leash. He's eager to learn, especially when treats are involved!

🐶 Other animals? Liam has been doing great with the dogs in his foster home! He enjoys their company and even likes napping near them. He occasionally wants all the toys to himself, but sharing is a work in progress! He's also been very respectful of the smaller dogs and rabbits in his foster home.

🏡 At home? Liam is a BIG cuddle bug! He loves being close to his people but can also happily entertain himself with toys, puzzles, and treats.

His favorite things? Squeaky toys, breakfast, outdoor adventures, and snuggling up near his favorite people and furry friends. Oh, and apparently paper towel rolls make excellent toys, too!

Liam's dream home would be an active, loving family. He's such a bright, affectionate boy with so much potential, and we can't wait to see him thrive with his forever family!

💕 Meet Dolly, the girl who has never met a stranger! 🐾

Seriously, Dolly knows no enemy. Kids? Loves them. Cats? No problem. Other dogs? She's a HUGE fan. People? Her absolute favorite! This sweet girl seems to have room in her heart for everyone she meets.

Dolly is affectionate, cuddly, and happiest when she's right by her human's side. Whether you're relaxing on the couch or going about your day, she'd love nothing more than to be included. She's the kind of companion who makes even the ordinary moments feel a little more special.

And she's got the brains to match that big heart! 🧠 Dolly is attentive, eager to learn, and makes wonderful eye contact with her handler. She's already showing off polite leash manners and has a great foundation to keep building on.

Did we mention she loves other dogs? Dolly genuinely enjoys their company and would be thrilled to have some canine friends in her life. 🐶

Sweet, social, smart, and an all-around wonderful companion — what's not to love?!

☀️ Joyful truly lives up to her name, and this incredibly smart, energetic girl is ready to find her forever teammate! 🐾

At almost 2 years old and about 35 pounds, Joyful approaches life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and an infectious excitement for whatever comes next. Her foster describes her as being “stoked literally all day every day,” and once you get to know her, it's easy to see why!

If you're looking for an exercise buddy, Joyful is more than ready for the job. She absolutely LOVES to run and does especially well keeping pace while running on leash. Walks, play sessions, exploring new places, and staying active are right up her alley!

Once she's gotten her energy out, though, Joyful has perfected the art of relaxation. She loves sunbathing in the yard, lounging on the back porch, curling up on the couch, and showing off what her foster calls a “perfect sploot.” ☀️

🎓 Joyful is also a proud graduate of our Basic Manners class! She's exceptionally smart, solves puzzle games quickly, and picks up new commands with ease. She knows “sit,” has been working on “wait,” responds well to redirection, and is wonderfully patient waiting for meals. She's also very treat-motivated, making continued training and mental enrichment especially rewarding.

Around the house, Joyful is a toy enthusiast! Give her a toy bin and she'll happily investigate the entire collection. Balls, soft toys, chewies, tug toys… she's not picky!

As much as Joyful loves staying busy, what she really loves is being with her people. She's social when meeting new humans, enjoys being out and about, and becomes especially cuddly when she's tired in the evening. Her happiest place is wherever her person happens to be. ❤️

Joyful would thrive with an active person or couple who appreciates both sides of her: the energetic athlete who wants to run, play, learn, and explore, and the affectionate girl who wants nothing more than to curl up close at the end of the day.

Joyful isn't just looking for a home. She's looking for a teammate. 🥹

🐾 TEACHING TUESDAY 🐾

Did you know that how you pet a dog can make a big difference in how comfortable they feel around you?

When meeting a new dog, our first instinct is often to reach down and give them a pat on the head. But for many dogs, having a hand come toward them from above can actually feel a little intimidating, especially if they don't know you yet!

Instead, try letting the dog approach you first. If they seem interested in interacting, gently petting their chest or under their chin can be a great place to start. ❤️

These areas are often less intimidating than the top of the head, and allowing a dog to keep their head in a natural, comfortable position can help them feel more at ease.

And remember, the dog gets a say, too! 🐶

Pay attention to their body language. If they're leaning into your touch, staying close, or asking for more, that's a good sign! If they turn away, stiffen up, or move back, give them some space.

Every dog is different, and learning to respect their boundaries is one of the simplest ways we can build trust with them.

A little understanding goes a long way toward making every interaction a positive one! 💛

Evee is a 2-year-old, 55-pound Doberman mix currently in the care of Española Humane, and she is truly something special!

This girl is incredibly social and seems to love just about everyone she meets. She's wonderful with dogs of all sizes, adores people of all ages (including babies!), and has even been respectful of the resident cats during visits to her foster's office. She's an all-around friendly, happy girl who just wants to be part of the fun!

Evee has spent quite some time in a loving foster home while recovering from hip surgery (an FHO), and we're happy to share that*she's doing wonderfully! Her foster reports that she's back to running full speed, playing normally, and using her leg without issue. She's not currently taking any medications and is living life like any other happy, playful pup!

Evee has attended adoption events, made plenty of friends, and shown everyone what a fantastic companion she can be. But somehow, she still hasn't found her person.

🎉 ADOPTION SUNDAY 🎉

Four more forever homes this week and our hearts are FULL.

Cooper, Autumn, Marsha, and Monte all officially found their people — and we truly never take these moments for granted. Every adoption represents so much behind-the-scenes love, patience, and teamwork.

And yes… 👀 eye-spy a foster fail!

Marsha (now Laney) made it official with the Murray family 🩵 The very best kind of goodbye is when you don’t actually have to say goodbye at all.

Huge, heartfelt thank you to the fosters who helped make these happy endings possible: Laura, Bagheera, Spruce, the Murray family, and Autumn's lovely foster. You are the bridge between uncertainty and forever. Because of you, these pups leave confident, safe, and deeply loved.

A special shoutout to Cooper's new family that drove all the way from IDAHO to come pick up this sweet boy!!

🐾 SUCCESS STORY SATURDAY 🐾

Sometimes the best happily-ever-afters are made up of the simple things: morning walks, a favorite ball, couch snuggles, and knowing you’re exactly where you belong. For Tater, that’s life with her forever family, Renee and Bill!

These days, Tater starts her mornings with a walk, is always ready for a good game of ball, and knows there’s no better way to end the day than snuggled up on the couch with her people.

“Tater loves her morning walks, chasing the ball and snuggles on the couch. She is such a love bug and we feel lucky that she’s ours!”

We think Tater looks pretty lucky, too. 💛

Thank you, Renee and Bill, for giving this sweet girl a life filled with love, adventures, playtime, and plenty of cozy couch snuggles. Seeing our former pups so happy and loved in their forever homes will never get old.
