Access to affordable childcare is a necessary ingredient for food security, but there's only one licensed childcare spot for every 5 babies born here. Back when our Cuidado Infantil Workgroup created a Strategic Plan for Childcare in the Latinx Community in La Plata County, we knew we needed bilingual classrooms for ages 3-5. After years of community partnership and advocacy, we couldn't be more stoked that two new bilingual classrooms are opening: one at , and one at !

Lili De Pablo has been a longtime member of our Voces de Comunidad and Cuidado Infantil workgroups. As a grandmother who helps care for her young grandson, Lili has first hand experience with the gaps in our childcare system. After developing her leadership and advocacy skills in LPFEC trainings, Lili spearheaded our Day Without Childcare campaign this spring. Now, she’s been chosen to be the first Spanish-speaking lead teacher in the Explorers Early Childhood Education bilingual classroom!

Congratulations Lili, and thank you for turning your lived experience into advocacy, action, and leadership positions that make a real difference in our community!

Looking for an achievable way to make the world a better place? The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe Elder Center Grow Dome is looking for volunteers!

Currently, the entire operation rests on a single, part-time horticulturist who is retiring on June 30. To ensure the long-term sustainability of the dome, the project is seeking to transition from a one-person operation to a community-collaborative model. They're looking for folks with skills in gardening, horticulture, and community organizing, and they offer free veggies in thanks! 🥬🫛🥒
