Did you know that the h-N-a is NOT an h-O-a???
After a recent conversation with some local folks, I realized that some people may not understand what our organization is or what our function is in the community. This may be the reason people are wary of joining us and getting involved.
An HOA is a homeowner's association. These groups have a bad reputation for imposing strict rules on the property that people purchase. These groups control what color you can paint your house, what decorations you can hang for holidays, how often you need to cut your grass. what vehicles can park in front of your house....the list goes on and on. And they impose FINES if you don't comply. THIS IS NOT WHAT WE ARE!
The HILL NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION is a community group serving the people living and working the Scranton's Hill Section. This includes homeowners, renters and business owners.
We are here to promote our local businesses by fostering relationships with our neighbors, cooperating to host events and making recommendations that help their business thrive.
We are here to enhance relationships between our neighbors by hosting community events that encourage us all to come together to work, play, celebrate our culture and get to know each other which builds a sense of community. Turning strangers into friends makes a community safer.
We are here to gather resources to provide the things that make our community better. Things such as installing Little Free Libraries, performing cleanup projects, providing needed items to people in need, helping our neighborhoods get the things they need to make it better.
We are here to advocate on behalf of our residents in government matters. Help get local authorities to give us the things that help us and stop the things that harm us. There is strength in numbers. Our combined voices can make a call to action happen where a lone voice can not. We can demand the things we need to make our neighborhoods safer, cleaner and peaceful.
So don't be afraid to join. Come to our meetings and get involved. Listen to our ideas and bring us your own. Together we can make great things happen.
