Teachers, Teacher Assistants, family service professionals, bus drivers, health staff, cooks, program leaders, and so many others bring their expertise and commitment to Head Start every day.

Seven members of COI’s Youth Corps spent a day in August volunteering at Centaur Stride Therapeutic Riding Facility in Ripley. Accompanied by two staff members, the youth helped with fencing, grooming supplies, cleaning saddles, pulling weeds, and preparing compost for the facility’s fundraiser. After all their hard work, they spent some time with the therapy horses—brushing, petting, and feeding them apples!

It was a beautiful day filled with hard work, learning, and lots of fun! The youth loved the experience and enjoyed spending time with the horses. A big thank you to the wonderful staff at Centaur Stride for welcoming us and sharing their knowledge!

Any youth age 14-21 who is interested in participating in monthly volunteer Youth Corps events should call COI's Safe House at 716-661-9446 for more information!

October is Head Start Awareness Month, a time to recognize the children, families, educators, and staff who make Head Start such an important part of communities across the country.

For more than 60 years, Head Start has helped children build a strong foundation for school and life while supporting parents and families along the way.

COI is proud to recognize Head Start Awareness Month and the people who make this program possible every day!
