A GREAT FIRST MEETING! ☘️🏴

Tonight, we held our first organizational meeting with the FSA Board, event organizers, team leaders, and community members working together to Save the St. Augustine Celtic Festival & Highland Games and St. Patrick’s Day Parade!

There was a LOT discussed, but here are some of the biggest takeaways:

☘️ We are moving forward with plans for the St. Augustine Celtic Festival & Highland Games on Saturday, March 13, 2027.

☘️ Francis Field is reserved and deposits have been paid.

☘️ Our next major milestone is our September 16 meeting with the City of St. Augustine. Over the next few weeks, we will be working on the proposed site plan, preliminary budget, event schedule, activities, and other information needed for that meeting.

☘️ We began building our volunteer-led planning teams, and several people stepped forward tonight to take leadership roles and help with clans, vendors, entertainment, the parade, sponsorships, demonstrations, and other areas.

☘️ Clan outreach will begin soon! We want to start reconnecting with the clans that have helped make St. Augustine such a special Celtic celebration over the years.

☘️ We discussed vendors, food vendors, entertainment, beer operations, Highland Games athletics, demonstrations, sponsorships, ticketing, marketing, and how we can fit everything onto Francis Field.

☘️ We are currently planning a one-day festival for 2027. Our goal is to bring the festival back in a way that is financially responsible, manageable, and sustainable so it can continue for years to come.

There are still MANY decisions to make. The budget isn't final. The site plan isn't final. Ticket prices haven't been set. We don't yet know exactly how many vendors or clans Francis Field will accommodate.

And that's okay — because tonight was about building the team that will help us answer those questions.

One thing was very clear tonight: there are a lot of people who care deeply about preserving this St. Augustine tradition. ❤️

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who joined us, offered their experience, volunteered to lead a team, shared contacts and resources, or simply said, "How can I help?"

Building this organizing board is incredibly important. FSA may have stepped forward to help get the process started, but this festival belongs to St. Augustine.

Our goal is to build a team of people from the community who know St. Augustine, know this festival, and want to help preserve it.

This is St. Augustine's festival — and we want the citizens of St. Augustine helping to lead it! ❤️

𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗜𝗦 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗 “𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗧. 𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗘 𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗧𝗜𝗖 𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟 & 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗚𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗦”?

We’ve been asked who we are and who is behind the effort to save the St. Augustine Celtic Festival & Highland Games.

We are the 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗔𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 (𝗙𝗦𝗔), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides Highland Games athletic competitions throughout Florida.

If you’ve attended the St. Augustine Celtic Festival over the years, you’ve seen us. 𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 throwing cabers, stones, weights and hammers.

FSA has provided the Highland Games athletics for St. Augustine since the festival’s inception. So, imagine our shock when we learned there would not be a festival—or a Highland Games—in 2027.

𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗪𝗘?

We are Highland Games athletes who love this sport and the communities that support it.

Our board is made up entirely of volunteers from many different professions and backgrounds. Among us are people who work in communications, business management, the electrical trade, education and small business ownership.

But when we step onto the field, we’re all Highland Games athletes.

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀. 𝗡𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗱.

Over the years, FSA has helped put on everything from large Highland Games to what we affectionately call “backyard games”—events where there is no major festival organizer or significant financial backing. We know how to put on Highland Games.

When we learned that Romanza would no longer be producing the Celtic Festival and our athletes began reaching out asking if FSA could do something, our board made a decision:

𝗪𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝘆.

𝗪𝗘 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗪𝗢𝗡’𝗧 𝗕𝗘 𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗬.

We aren't under any illusion about the amount of work—or money—it will take.

We are a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We don't have the financial resources of a large festival organization.

But we believe that 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝘁. 𝗔𝘂𝗴𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, the Celtic community, local businesses, athletes, clans, musicians, vendors and volunteers, we can keep this tradition alive.

Our goal is to build an event that includes:

🏴 Highland Games athletics
🏴 Scottish clans
🏴 Vendors
🏴 Music
🏴 A parade
🏴 Celtic culture and community

Will the first year look exactly like the festival we've all known and loved? Probably not.

Big-name bands, large stages and major festival production come with enormous costs. We have to start with what we can realistically accomplish.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

And who knows? With community support, perhaps we can build it year after year into something just as wonderful—or even bigger—in the future.

𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗪𝗘’𝗥𝗘 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠.

We are currently putting together a Save the St. Augustine team made up of people who have already stepped forward and offered their time, experience and talents.

And we need more.

𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀, 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀, 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀, 𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 who want to help make this happen.

Whether you can donate, sponsor part of the event, volunteer your time, provide a service, share a connection or simply help spread the word, there is a place for you in this effort.

𝗢𝗡𝗘 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗪𝗘 𝗪𝗔𝗡𝗧 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗖𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥.

We have no ill will whatsoever toward the previous festival organizers.

They always treated FSA and our athletes well, and we are grateful for the many years they gave St. Augustine and the Celtic community an event that meant so much to so many people.

Their decision to discontinue the festival was theirs to make, and we respect that decision.

𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.

The Celtic Festival and Highland Games have become part of the story and tradition of St. Augustine.

𝗪𝗲’𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘄𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿.
