Stuart and Ruth Carlson were both raised overseas as third generation missionary kids - Stuart in Peru and Ruth in Nigeria - and both have an interest in foreign ministries. In the late 1990's, Stuart and Ruth started raising funds for a ministry in Nigeria called Joi Ministries, which was later renamed Alternorm Ministries. By 2000, they incorporated Partners in Joy as a 501c3 organization. Over

the years, Partners in Joy grew to support not only Alternorm, but also MoM orphanages, summer missions, the Igala Language Project, Matsigenka Ministries, and linguists Bob & Judy Reed.
