Exciting Visit to the Aviation Education Center at KJST!

Our cadets recently had an incredible experience at the Aviation Education Center at Johnstown-John Murtha Cambria County Airport (KJST). The welcoming staff of Saint Francis University introduced them to their Aviation Maintenance Technician program with an engaging presentation on airplane components and mechanics, career options in aviation, college admissions, scholarships, and US Air Force ROTC programs.

The highlight of the day was the time in the hangar. The cadets rolled up their sleeves and crafted sheet metal flowers. They also had a demonstration of different aircraft components, deepening their understanding of how planes operate. Exploring the metal airplanes up close was an unforgettable experience! The cadets were allowed to climb into various aircraft, giving them a pilot's-eye view of the cockpit and controls. It was an inspiring glimpse into the world of aviation that surely ignited a passion in many of the cadets.

A huge thank you to the program coordinators and the team at Saint Francis University for their hospitality and for providing refreshments.

Dress Code:
The uniform of the day (UOD) will be ABUs.

Important Note:
If you haven’t submitted the permission form for the trip, please ensure it is signed by your parents and bring it with you on Thursday.

There was a promotion and change of command ceremony performed last night at the Brush Mountain Composite Squadron by the Group Commander Capt Brian Andrews.
1Lt Joe Sohmer was promoted to the rank of Captain. Captain Sohmer was assisted with his promotion by his wife and daughter!
Outgoing Commander, Lt Col Suzanne McBride handed over the squadron commander duties and responsibilities to Capt Sohmer.
Thank you to both Lt Col McBride and Captain Sohmer for upholding the traditions and values of the squadron, and for serving all of the fellow members!

This week's squadron meeting on November 7, 2024, was exciting as our cadets participated in an engaging aerospace activity focused on rocketry. Under the guidance of 1st Lt Sohmer, cadets constructed and launched their own rockets using foam tubes and rubber bands. This hands-on experience was both fun and educational, truly bringing aerospace science to life. In addition to this activity, cadets also took part in drills and ceremonies, as well as programs focused on duty assignments.

This week, our cadets had an incredible opportunity to visit the local 911 Center. It was a fantastic experience where they learned firsthand about emergency response operations and the importance of quick, coordinated action.
