Honoring Freedom, Legacy, and Service – Juneteenth 2026
Juneteenth is more than a celebration—it is a powerful reminder of freedom, resilience, and the enduring legacy of those who paved the way. This year, it was truly an honor for the NABSTMC Charleston, WV to once again lead the Juneteenth Parade.
This moment carried deep meaning as we reflected on the legacy of the original Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th and 10th Cavalries—men of courage, discipline, and unwavering commitment whose impact still echoes today. To represent that history and legacy in our community is both humbling and inspiring.
We were proud to stand alongside the incredible ladies of the Valkyries, who helped lead the lineup with strength and unity. It was also a joy to celebrate the 2026 Juneteenth Court—congratulations to all honorees! A special recognition goes to future Buffalo Soldier “Jax” (grandson of Butler and Ms. Stiletto) on being named Honorary Junior Mr. Juneteenth. Your future is bright, and the legacy continues.
The day brought together a powerful cross-section of the community, including members of the Divine Nine (D9), the Charleston Women’s Improvement League, local youth groups, and many more. Fellowship and unity were on full display as we gathered in honor of freedom.
The celebration continued at Slack Plaza with live music, vendors, informational booths, and a moving historical Juneteenth performance—an experience that educated, uplifted, and brought history to life.
Kudos to the planning committee and the City of Charleston for organizing such a meaningful and impactful event. Together, we continue to honor the past while inspiring the future.
Freedom. Legacy. Community.
