**Multiple Alarm Structure Fire** - 8/11/26

This afternoon just before 4 o'clock, Rescue 3 was dispatched into Demarest for a 2nd Alarm House Fire. Rescue 3 along with Chiefs 210 and 211 responded. Upon arrival, the Rescue assisted in stretching the first hose line into the building and assigned to primary search. Crews encountered heavy fire throughout the second floor and attic space. The fire eventually grew to multiple alarms bringing additional companies to the scene. The house was not occupied when the fire broke out, and still under investigation.

The Dumont Fire Department responded to several dozen storm related incidents overnight and into this morning.

Several streets throughout the borough remain impassable due to downed trees, utility poles, and power lines.

At this time, there is no estimated time of restoration from PSE&G for the full restoration of electrical service.

If you observe downed power lines, especially those that are arcing, sparking, or smoking or if a fallen tree has caused damage to a structure on your property, please contact the Dumont Police Department Dispatch Desk at 201-387-5000 for the Fire Dept. to respond. If there is an immediate danger to life or property, call 911.

Please avoid all downed wires, assume they are energized, and stay clear of affected areas while emergency crews continue their work.
