The DFD would like to congratulate FDNY Lieutenant Mickey Conboy on his recent retirement after 41 years of service to the City of New York. Over the course of a distinguished career spanning four decades, and marked by both extraordinary service and tragedy, Mickey demonstrated immense dedication to the fire service. His professionalism, leadership, and commitment set the standard for what a firefighter should be.

Yesterday, the Dumont Fire Department recognized Ex Chief James Molinaro for his 50 years of service to the Dumont Fire Department. Jim joined the DFD in 1976 and served as Chief of the Department in 1984, 1987, 2008, and 2009. An instrumental figure in the advancement of the Fire Department, Jim led the department through decades of growth, mentorship, and dedication to the community. His commitment to the fire service and the residents of Dumont has left a lasting impact on generations of firefighters and officers who served alongside him.

The department also recognized Jim’s son, Ex Chief Dan Molinaro, for more than 27 years of service to the DFD. Dan served as Chief of the Department in 2016 and 2017, proudly following in his father’s footsteps with the same level of commitment and dedication to Dumont’s firefighters and the community.

Early this morning, Deputy Chief 211 and Engine 5 responded into Bergenfield for a 3rd alarm fire. Crews were heavily engaged on arrival in fire suppression efforts. Thankfully, no injuries were reported to residents or firefighters despite an interior collapse of the first floor. Upon the departure of Dumont crews, the cause was still undetermined.

Later in the day while clearing an alarm activation on Washington Avenue, a general alarm sounded for a reported smoke condition on Druid Avenue. Engine 3 arrived first due, forced entry, and located a stovetop fire that was quickly brought under control.

Just after 2:30 AM on Sunday, February 8, Dumont Police Officers came across a fire in a home on West Madison Avenue. A general alarm was subsequently dispatched for the Dumont Fire Department to respond.

First arriving companies located a fire in a first floor bathroom that was quickly brought under control. The home was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported.

The fire has been determined to have been caused by a space heater. During these frigid temperatures, please use extreme caution when operating space heaters, as they can quickly become hazardous if not used properly.

Automatic Aid was received for (1) Ladder from the Bergenfield Fire Department.
