Dummerston Historical Society Open this Sunday, June 7, 1-3 pm.
You are invited to visit the Dummerston Historical Society during its open hours this Sunday, June 7th from 1-3 pm, to view two very different but intriguing exhibits.
“Faces and Places, Snap, Snap, Snap”, an exhibit by Len Oppenheim, capturing photographs of life – individuals, groups of people,
landmarks, the environment – during his Peace Corps years in Afghanistan and travels in years thereafter.
The second exhibit, by Julie Johnson-McGrath, who recently presented a program on “Why the Heck were Doctors Always Bleeding People? Medicine before the 20 th Century” displays advertisements by the pharmaceutical industry promoting their products over the years.
The Dummerston Historical Society, next to the town office in Dummerston Center, is open to all and there is no admission charge though donations are always welcome. The Society is open the first and third Sundays of the month from 1-3 pm or by appointment. Hope to see you this Sunday!

Dummerston Historical Society Open this Sunday, May 17, 1-3 pm.

You are invited to visit the Dummerston Historical Society during its open hours this Sunday, May 17th from 1-3 pm, to view two very different but intriguing exhibits.

DUMMERSTON HISTORICAL SOCIETY QUARTERLY MEETING & PROGRAM.
THURSDAY, APRIL 16th – 7 pm

The Dummerston Historical Society invites members and visitors to its April quarterly meeting on Thursday, April 16 th at 7 pm at the Dummerston Historical Society in Dummerston Center. Following a short business meeting, Julie Johnson-McGrath will present a program on “Why the Heck Were Doctors Always Bleeding People? Medicine before the 20th Century”.

After regularly visiting dear friends in Dummerston for over 30 years, Julie Johnson-McGrath and her husband Ed retired here in 2023. Julie has lectured widely and taught at the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned her PhD in the History and Sociology of Science, Harvard, and the Wagner Free Institute of Science. She still maintains her consulting practice, coronerlady.com, where she advises authors of fiction and non-fiction, family historians and genealogists on current and historical forensic science, medicine, technology and causes of death.
The Dummerston Historical Society is open to all and there is no admission charge though donations are always welcome.
The Society is also open the first and third Sundays of the month from 1-3 pm or by appointment.

The Dummerston Historical Society invites all to a new exhibit “Faces and Places, Snap, Snap, Snap”, featuring photographs by Leonard Oppenheim at the opening reception on Sunday, April 12, from 1-3 pm, with a remarks by Len at 1:30 pm.

Len, a full time resident of Dummerston since the early 2000’s,
first visited Dummerston as a Peace Corps trainee in July-October, 1964. His two year Peace Corps assignment was in Afghanistan. Exotic, colorful, wondrous! A terrific place for photography. And the rest is history! Over the years, Len has traveled many places worldwide (Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Pakistan, USA, Uzbekistan and more), always keeping a camera with him.
Snap, Snap, Snap, capturing photographs of life – individuals, groups of people, landmarks, the environment- in each country and here in Dummerston, his home. Every photograph has a story!

The Dummerston Historical Society in Dummerston Center adjacent to the Town Office is accessible, admission is free and is open the first and third Sundays of the month from 1-3 pm, or by appointment.
Exhibits rotate quarterly. Volunteer board members will be glad to help with your inquiries.

Last Chance to View Dummerston School Student Art Exhibit

You are invited to visit the Dummerston Historical Society Schoolhouse during its open hours this Sunday, March 15, from 1-3 pm. This will be the last opportunity to view the Dummerston school student art exhibit which consists of amazing art works of 25 students in grades 1 st , 4 th , 5 th and 8 th grades. All are welcome to view exhibits, ask questions, share information, do some research or just say hi! Come casual and stay as long or short as you like!!

The two current exhibits, Quarries of Black Mountain and Dummerston School Student Art, have drawn much interest. The quarries exhibit consists of multiple photographs of the quarries over the years, information sheets and a video of the presentation by George Kohout at the Society's recent annual meeting and will remain displayed for several more weeks. The student art exhibit will likely become an annual event.

The Dummerston Historical Society in Dummerston Center adjacent to the town office is accessible; admission is free and is open the first and third Sundays of the month (except for Easter Sunday) 1-3 pm. or by appointment.
