Leadership is not about choosing between strength and kindness. The real challenge is knowing how to use both.

A leader can be strong without being disrespectful.
A leader can be kind without letting standards disappear.
That balance matters.

Strong leadership sets expectations, holds the line, and protects the mission. Kind leadership builds trust, develops people, and reminds the team that standards and respect can exist in the same room.

Jim Rohn said it well:
“The challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak.”
That is a lesson every leader needs to remember.

What’s your pick?

June 15th is National Lobster Day! 🦞

Division One covers a lot of ground — from Maine to Virginia — so we have to ask the important question:

Are you choosing Maryland crab or Maine lobster?

Drop your answer in the comments and let’s see which side shows up stronger. 👇

In honor of Flag Day, comment with the name of someone whose service helped shape your respect for the American flag. 🇺🇸

On June 14, 1777, Congress passed a resolution establishing the design of the United States flag: 13 stripes, alternating red and white, and 13 white stars on a blue field, representing the original 13 colonies.

Years later, in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation recognizing June 14 as Flag Day. In 1949, President Harry S. Truman signed legislation officially establishing National Flag Day.

Flag Day is a reminder that the American flag represents more than colors and cloth. It represents freedom, unity, service, sacrifice, and the responsibility we all share to honor what it stands for.

What’s your favorite jerky flavor?

June 12th is National Jerky Day.

Every good field pack needs a solid snack, and jerky is usually near the top of the list.
Now the question is…

What is the best beef jerky flavor?
Original, Teriyaki, Peppered, or Spicy?

Young Marines, Adult Volunteers, and families — drop your answer in the comments.
And yes, we already know someone is going to say, “Whatever I can trade for.” 😂

🌅 National Twilight Zone Day — Young Marines Edition

Most people hear Twilight Zone and think of the old TV show.

Young Marines hear twilight and should think:

before sunup and after sundown.
That weird in-between time where it is not fully light, not fully dark, and everyone suddenly forgets how to see, walk, pack, form up, or find the thing they were just holding five minutes ago. 😆

But there is a leadership lesson in that.
Twilight is when leaders need to be locked in. Visibility changes. Safety changes. Movement changes. Accountability matters more. Communication matters more.

Because in leadership, the danger is not always when things are completely dark. Sometimes it is when people think they can still see clearly.

So today’s reminder:
Good leaders do not wait for perfect conditions. They lead through the gray area.

Drop a comment: sunrise formation or sunset formation — which one is worse? 👇

What leader or leadership quote influences you the most?

Leadership is not just about having a vision. It is about helping people understand it, believe in it, and work together to make it real.

A strong leader does not simply point toward the goal and hope everyone follows. They communicate the mission, build trust, create momentum, and turn ideas into action.

Warren Bennis said it well: “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.”
That is the difference between talking about where we want to go and actually moving the team forward.
