π¦ SUNDAY ARCHIVE STORY 1937 β A New Chapter in Service and Leadership
From the pages of the Moore County News comes another fascinating glimpse into the early history of the Dumas Lions Club.
By June 1937, the Lions of Dumas were once again making their presence felt throughout the community.
From helping restore Boy Scout activities to improving local softball fields, addressing road concerns, and participating in district affairs, these early Lions demonstrated a commitment to service that continues today.
But tucked within the newspaper accounts was an unexpected discovery.
In June 1937, while Ed Berg was still serving as president, the club held its election for the coming Lions year. Fred Wortham emerged victorious over Floyd Elliott, with a new slate of officers preparing to assume their duties on July 1.
It is through these nearly forgotten newspaper accounts that pieces of our club's early history are gradually coming together.
Nearly 90 years have passed, yet the spirit of service that guided those early Lions remains part of our story today.
