Boozhoo families,
We will be hosting the 2nd Annual Honor the Youth Powwow at Lincoln Park Middle School Saturday May 9rd. This is an opportunity to celebrate, recognize, and honor your students district wide with an emphasis on our 8th graders transitioning to high school. All are welcome and invited! Please bring your whole family! We will eat together starting at 12 with burgers and brats catered from B&B, Grand Entry starting with the FDL Honor Guard at 1:30 pm, student recognition and gift giveaway, possible raffle prizes, contests, and more throughout the event. We will have vendors, a pop-up pantry for traditional food, household items, and groceries, provided by the Duluth Community School Collaborative, and community partners sharing opportunities and resources. Our head dancers will be youth in the community and Les Gibbs will be our returning MC. We hope to see you there to honor you and your students! Please share with others you know and appreciate this post if you are planning to attend.

About this event: A powwow is a contemporary social celebration for Native people. There are many different tribes represented and many traditional practices incorporated. It is a celebration of life, and all the people are dancing to celebrate a good way of life " Mino-bimaadiziwin ". This is a time for all the people to dance Native and non Native! We dance for ourselves, our families and all of those who came before us. We dance to continue our culture and for our strength as Anishinaabe people, we dance to teach our youth about who they are. This is a chance for others to come and dance with us and show their respect for our way of life. We dance in a circle around the drum, the drum beat represents mother earth's heartbeat. It is a sound that we all know , we all hear our mother's heartbeat when we are in the womb. The circle represents many things vital to life such as the earth, sun, moon, four directions, circle of life, etc.

Tonight is the final night to provide feedback on the future W Superior St design! The project team will present updates on the design, construction phases, timelines, and anticipated impacts on traffic flow and local businesses. This meeting allows the community to view the final layout, ask questions, and share feedback on the streetscape elements as plans are finalized.

The City of Duluth invites community members, business owners, and stakeholders to attend the fifth and final public meeting regarding the reconstruction of West Superior Street between Carlton and West Michigan Streets. The project team will present updates on the design, construction phases, timelines, and anticipated impacts on traffic flow and local businesses. This meeting allows the community to view the final layout, ask questions, and share feedback on the streetscape elements as plans are finalized.
The fifth public open house will occur on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Clyde Iron Works Malting Building (2907 Helm Street, Duluth, MN).
Project design is nearly complete, with construction scheduled from 2025 to 2028. Funding for the project will come from a Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) federal grant, MnDOT IIJA Matching Grant, Municipal State Aid for Streets, and utility funds.

The scope of work for the project includes:

• Full reconstruction of the roadway and utilities.
• Traffic signal replacement.
• Stormwater drainage and infrastructure improvements.
• Street lighting replacement and improvement.
• Pedestrian improvements.
• Multimodal improvements for cyclists and other lightweight human- and electric-powered devices.

The design team will provide a brief presentation at 5:00 pm to discuss the project and the design. Community members are invited to attend the open house at any time that is convenient for them. City staff and the design team will be available to discuss the project and gather feedback throughout the open house.
