šŸ’š June is PTSD Awareness Month šŸ’š

Not all wounds are visible.

Every day, countless individuals live with the effects of trauma while quietly showing incredible courage and resilience. Service dogs provide more than assistance—they provide stability, confidence, and a trusted partner through the healing journey.

This month, Warrior Paws stands with those living with PTSD, honors their strength, and recognizes the life-changing impact of service dogs.

Because healing doesn’t always happen alone—it sometimes walks beside you on four paws.

ā€œMyth vs. Fact Mondayā€

āŒ Myth: Service dogs only help people with visible disabilities.

āœ… Fact: Many disabilities are invisible. A person’s medical condition is private, and a service dog may be performing critical tasks that aren’t obvious to the public.

Yesterday was a big day for one of our littlest helpers! šŸ’™šŸ¾

She had the opportunity to work with both Jaxy and Mira—two very different dogs with two very different personalities, learning styles, and training needs. Anyone who has spent time around service dog training knows that no two dogs are alike. What works for one dog may not work for another, and that means the handler has to learn, adapt, and grow right alongside them.

That’s one of the biggest lessons we teach at Warrior Paws: we’re not just training dogs—we’re training handlers, too.

Throughout the day, she faced challenges, adjusted her approach, stayed focused, and kept showing up with determination and a willingness to learn. She asked questions, accepted coaching, and never quit when things got difficult.

What makes us so proud isn’t just what she accomplished with Jaxy and Mira. It’s the mindset she brings every single time she steps onto the training field. She proves that when you’re passionate about learning, willing to listen, and committed to improving, there’s very little you can’t achieve.

This young lady doesn’t give up. She keeps trying. She keeps learning. She keeps growing.

And that kind of perseverance is exactly what creates great service dog teams—and great people.

We’re incredibly proud of her and can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next. šŸ’™šŸ¾

🐾 Look at that focus. 🐾

Pictured here is MaryBeth, one of our incredible volunteers with Warrior Paws and our partners at Rucker Dog Training, spending time training with Milton.

One of the most important qualities of a successful service dog is the ability to focus on their handler, even when the world around them is full of distractions. Whether they’re in a grocery store, restaurant, airport, school, or crowded public event, a service dog’s attention must remain on the person they are serving and supporting.

Just take a look at Milton’s eyes. That level of engagement doesn’t happen by accident. It is built through consistency, repetition, patience, and countless training sessions.

Today, MaryBeth was putting in the reps with Milton, helping reinforce the skills that will one day allow him to confidently support someone who depends on him every single day.

Service dog training is truly a team effort, and volunteers like MaryBeth play an invaluable role in the journey. Every walk, every command, every training session, and every moment of focused engagement helps shape these dogs into life-changing partners.

Thank you, MaryBeth, for your dedication, your time, and your heart. We are grateful for everything you do for our dogs, our handlers, and our mission.

At Warrior Paws, we’re changing lives four paws at a time. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

🚨 ā€œIn Case of Emergency, Do Not Separate Dog From Handler.ā€ 🚨

It may look like just another patch on a service dog’s vest.

It isn’t.

For many service dog teams, that dog is not simply a companion. The dog is a lifeline. A source of safety. A medical support system. A grounding presence. A trusted partner trained to recognize needs that others may never see.

In an emergency, people naturally focus on helping the individual involved. But what many don’t realize is that separating a handler from their service dog can add confusion, fear, anxiety, and distress during an already traumatic situation.

A service dog may be trained to:
🐾 Alert to medical conditions
🐾 Interrupt panic or anxiety episodes
🐾 Provide grounding and emotional stabilization
🐾 Assist with mobility and balance
🐾 Retrieve help or critical items
🐾 Help their handler navigate overwhelming environments

Beyond the trained tasks, there is something equally important: trust.

That dog may be the one constant source of reassurance in a frightening moment. The familiar face that helps a handler remain calm, regulated, and safe when everything else feels uncertain.

Of course, the safety of emergency responders, medical personnel, the handler, and the dog will always come first. But whenever possible, keeping a service dog with its handler can make a significant difference in the outcome of a crisis.

At Warrior Paws, we believe education saves confusion and compassion saves stress. That small patch carries a powerful message:

This team belongs together.

Because sometimes the most important piece of emergency equipment isn’t attached to an ambulance, fire truck, or police car.

Sometimes it’s walking on four paws right beside the person who needs it most. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

āš¾ļø What’s Joe been up to since the Gwinnett Stripers game?

We’re pretty sure he’s been working on his batting average. Or maybe negotiating a major league contract. We haven’t confirmed either rumor. šŸ˜†

But in all seriousness, Joe has been doing what service dogs do best—training!

One question we hear often is: ā€œOnce a service dog graduates, do they stop training?ā€

The answer is a big NO.

Just like athletes, first responders, and professionals who continuously sharpen their skills, service dogs require ongoing training throughout their lives. While they absolutely enjoy downtime, playtime, naps, and just being dogs, their training never truly stops.

In fact, all of our Warrior Paws dogs participate in regular training every single day. Most receive at least two training sessions daily to reinforce obedience, public access skills, task work, and the behaviors that help them safely and confidently support their handlers.

Training isn’t just about learning new things—it’s about maintaining excellence.

So while Joe may not be headed to the major leagues anytime soon (or we can hope!), he is continuing to put in the work, one training session at a time. And if you’ve ever met Joe, you know he’s always ready to steal the spotlight anyway. ā¤ļøšŸ¾

What do you think? Is Joe training for the big leagues or just making sure he’s the MVP of the Warrior Paws team?! Tell us in the comments!

Not all dogs in public spaces serve the same role — and understanding the difference matters.

Service dogs are specially trained to perform specific tasks for a person with a disability and are protected under the ADA, including access to restaurants and other public places. Therapy dogs and emotional support dogs provide incredible comfort and support, but they do not have the same public access rights. And while we all love our pets, pets are not trained service animals.

At Warrior Paws, we believe education creates understanding, respect, and safer experiences for handlers and their dogs. A working service dog is not a distraction, a photo opportunity, or a petting invitation — that dog may be actively helping its handler navigate a medical, physical, or psychological disability.

Know the difference. Respect the team. 🐾

Service dogs may look adorable, but when that vest is on, they’re working. 🐾

Distracting a service dog — even for a moment — can interrupt important tasks their handler depends on for safety, stability, or medical support. Please remember: no petting, calling, whistling, or trying to get their attention without permission.

The best way to support a service dog team? Respect the space they need to work. šŸ’™

Is Jaxy practicing a ā€œhideā€ command… or is she unofficially announcing that she’s clocked out for the day? šŸ˜‚šŸ¾

Believe it or not, service dogs need breaks too. While these incredible dogs are highly trained and love having a job to do, they are still dogs at heart — and rest, play, and downtime are just as important as training sessions and task work.

Training a service dog requires intense focus, repetition, problem solving, and emotional engagement. Just like people, dogs can become mentally fatigued. That’s why professional training programs build in time for decompression, confidence building, naps, enrichment, and simply being a dog.

A healthy service dog is not one that works 24/7 — it’s one that has balance. Some days our dogs are laser-focused and eager to learn, and other days… well… they may prefer to ā€œdisappearā€ under the place board and pretend we can’t see them. šŸ˜…

At Warrior Paws and Rucker Dog Training, we believe in training with patience, purpose, and understanding. Rest is part of the process too. And honestly, Jaxy may have figured out something we all need to remember every now and then — it’s okay to take a break. ā¤ļøšŸ•ā€šŸ¦ŗ

There’s something incredibly special about watching confidence grow in real time.

Over the last few weeks, our young helper has become more intentional, more focused, and more connected during training with Milton — and it shows. Every command, every interaction, every small moment of progress is building something bigger than most people realize.

And then there’s that smile at the end of this video.
That smile is exactly why we do what we do. ā¤ļø

At Warrior Paws, we change lives four paws at a time. What you’re seeing here is more than dog training — it’s trust, patience, connection, confidence, and growth happening together. Service dogs can provide support in so many unique ways, helping create independence, comfort, routine, and reassurance in everyday life.

And make no mistake — this is a family effort, too. While our young helper was hard at work with Milton, Mom was right alongside them putting in the work training with Mira. We believe successful service dog teams are built through understanding, consistency, and support from the entire family unit. That’s also why the work they’re doing with Milton matters so much — every interaction, every training session, and every helping hand plays a role in shaping him into the exceptional service dog he is becoming for his future handler. 🐾
