We're fighting homelessness... before it even starts. 🥊

On any given night in Gwinnett County, over 350 people could be spending the night in a shelter or on the street. That doesn't even account for the people staying with friends or relatives, sleeping in their cars or moving from motel to motel!

At Home Repairs Ministries, we've joined the fight against homelessness — but not through transitional housing or career training. Alongside our family of partners, donors and volunteers, we're preventing the loss of the home in the first place!

This , let's help homeowners stay where they belong!

There's nothing like the feeling of being handed the keys to your new home. One that YOU own! 🔑 🏡

As you walk in the front door, you imagine the memories you'll make with loved ones inside these walls. Will you celebrate a big promotion? The birth of a child? Wedding anniversaries?

Years later, you've made the memories and celebrated the milestones. But as you've aged, walking through your front door doesn't feel the same.

Ray and Janet had lived in their home for 30 years and built strong roots in their community. When Ray's mobility declined, leaving and entering his home became a struggle.

"He can’t walk, so he uses a wheelchair,” Janet shared. “We were having to [push the wheelchair] across the grass.”

It only took one day for Home Repairs Ministries to build a ramp for the couple, making their door, yard and car accessible to them again!

“[We were surprised at] how fast [HRM] got it done, and all the help that showed up was amazing. It made us feel loved and that somebody cares," she added.

🎉 To us, new homeownership is a cause of celebration! But we celebrate a little harder when you help us keep aging homeowners in the place they call home.

Yesterday, with the help of Church On The Hill (volunteering with us for the first time!) and some of our regular volunteers, we were able to help Michael.

Michael lives by himself on less than $20,000 a year. He's been in his home for over 20 years.

Several years ago, his sister (who lives in another state) couldn't reach him and asked Gwinnett Police to do a welfare check. Through an open window in the back of the house, officers found him lying on the floor. He had suffered a stroke and had been there for three days, unable to speak or move before he was discovered.

His recovery has been slow, and as a result, he hasn't been able to keep up with the maintenance of his home. Code Enforcement and Michael reached out to us to help.

Our volunteers yesterday got so much done in this first phase! We're so grateful for their great attitudes and willingness to help on a hot, humid day. We also love that Michael spent the entire time with our crew, working alongside them. 💙

Quick update from our Executive Director Heather!

We're gearing up for our Golf Classic on September 11 and our 20th Anniversary Celebration on November 5. Plus, tomorrow we'll be sharing the story behind today's repair project and why it matters.

Thanks for helping us repair homes and hearts together!

“Unfortunately, sometimes a church can be the least likely place to collaborate with other churches, but collaboration is what Community Outreach is all about,” shared Chip Sweney, one of the first supporters of Home Repairs Ministries.

He was also instrumental in founding Perimeter Church's Community Outreach initiative.

Chip feels that the Church has, in some ways, fallen short in modeling Jesus’ love and compassion. But collaborative efforts help churches align more closely with His heart.

“In Matthew 9:35-38, Jesus went through the villages teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel and healing every disease and affliction. When He saw the crowds, He had compassion for them because they were harassed and helpless,” Chip shared.

“It’s the model of Christ’s life which we want to emulate. Obviously, we do want to share the truth of God’s word, but it’s about living it out as well.”

Through partnerships with Home Repairs Ministries and other like-minded organizations, the congregation at Perimeter is living out its faith and making a lasting difference in its community.

“Home Repairs brings the practical love of Christ to those who need it,” he said. “I’m extremely thankful for the consistent leadership of Home Repairs Ministries over these 20 years and thankful that we got to play a small part in helping it come to fruition.”

Before Home Repairs Ministries and hundreds of repaired hearts and homes, there was a congregation that saw unmet needs all around them.

Perimeter Church in Johns Creek is approaching its 50th anniversary as a congregation, but in its 25th year, church leaders realized there was something missing in their church and community.

“A healthy church is strong in the head, heart and hands,” said Chip Sweney, executive director and pastor of Greater Atlanta Transformation at Perimeter.

“Head is strong doctrine and theology, heart is evangelism and hand is ministries of mercy and justice. At year 25, we realized we really had no intentional strategy for ‘the hand,’ coming alongside and impacting those in need around us.”

In 2002, he helped launch Perimeter’s Community Outreach program.

In the beginning, Community Outreach focused on building partnerships with these existing people and organizations. But as church members became more involved in the community, they began to notice gaps in outreach and unmet needs.

One of those gaps was home repairs.

It's an honor to serve homeowners who served our country! 🇺🇸

As veterans in our state age or face illness or disability, they often can't keep up with their home maintenance. Front steps rot, siding cracks and door seals deteriorate.

At the same time, their home isn't aging with them. It lacks a ramp or a grab bar to promote their mobility and independence.

🫶 But this Memorial Day, we all can step up to support our heroes!

Your gift to Home Repairs Ministries helps us repair veterans' homes and give them back the peace of mind they deserve!
