🐓 The Steering Committee is a volunteer position that supports and organizes behind the scenes to help bring the festival to life. We're seeking individuals who are team-oriented, flexible, engaged, and willing to dive into tasks. The commitment is a meeting once a month in the evenings, with meetings picking up in frequency in March and April as the festival approaches. HOMEGROWN IS HIRING! 🐓

Homegrown Music Festival is searching for its next Volunteer Coordinator. The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and overseeing the 160+ volunteers who help bring the festival to life. They will work closely with the Festival Director and the Steering Committee to make things happen.

🐓Job Duties:
- Conduct volunteer recruitment for venues for both the Festival and ancillary events.
- Recruit and screen all volunteers and venue managers.
- Update volunteer training material as needed.
- Run the volunteer training, and keep detailed records of completion.
- Manage the scheduling of volunteers at different venues through Homegrown’s Volunteer Local database.
- Be available each night of the Festival to support volunteer and staffing needs.
- Coordinate in real time needs of volunteers (e.g. filling unexpected absences, delivering wristbands to volunteers if they run out, etc.).
- Participate in Steering Committee meetings and a post-Festival review.

🐓 Qualifications:
- Willingness to recruit, engage, and build relationships with current and prospective volunteers.
- Ability to problem solve independently.
- Ability to multitask.
- Ability to remain calm and focused during chaotic situations (which will happen).
- Experience and being comfortable with technology is required. Emailing, texting, and managing the database crucial to the role.
- Prior volunteer experience in any capacity/organization is preferred, but not required.

🐓 Compensation:
- This is a part-time position with a 6-month contract. Compensation is $3,000.

NEWS FROM THE CHICKEN 🐓:

Homegrown Board of Directors is excited to announce two new leaders - welcome Erin “Wojo” Wojciechowski as Executive Director, and Jenny Armstrong as Festival Director!

Erin Wojo joins Homegrown with a deep love of local music, dancing, and administrative jargon. Her first Homegrown was in 2009 and she’s been hooked ever since. She has 10 years of nonprofit experience, with the last four years serving as an Executive Director of a local mentoring organization. “I’m honored to be stepping into the role of Executive Director. The opportunity to combine my passion for the local music scene with nonprofit expertise is truly wonderful.” Erin will be working closely with the Board of Directors to renew Homegrown’s 501c3 status and will help shape best practices moving forward for organizational governance.

Jenny Armstrong joins as the new Festival Director and if you’ve been at any Homegrowns recently, you know her infamous warmth and energy. Jenny joined the Steering Committee 8 years ago and most recently served as the Volunteer Coordinator for the past 5 years. Her dedication and love for the Festival is infectious. “The opportunity to continue with this amazing festival makes me very happy. I’ve loved the work I’ve done so far, and really look forward to being part of its growth into the future”. Jenny will be coordinating logistics, venues, selection and scheduling, and will work closely with the leadership and Steering Committee to get things done. She looks forward to having endless amounts of hugs in the process.

Homegrown is planning to hire a Volunteer Coordinator and will be expanding members on the Steering Committee. These are roles that truly make Homegrown happen. More details to come!

In addition to the Executive Director position, Homegrown also plans to hire a Festival Director position later in the summer - the Executive Director will be involved in that hiring process. While the Executive Director role will be responsible for the administrative, financial, and governance health of the organization (obviously including the festival itself), the Festival Director will be focused on festival operations and logistics. These are both critically important leadership roles for Homegrown and they will require a different skill set and focus for each. Watch for that application later in the summer.

Homegrown is hiring!

Homegrown Music Festival is searching for its next Executive Director. The new ED will be stepping into a long legacy of community leaders who have kept this miracle of a festival going for 27 years - starting with our founder, Scott Lunt, to our most recent co-directors Dereck & Cory. Every director has an important part of Homegrown's legacy, we're excited to find our next leader to add to this remarkable celebration.

Do you have a deep, authentic connection to the Duluth-Superior music and arts community, genuine passion for what Homegrown represents, and the ability to lead, coordinate, and inspire a team of volunteers with clarity and warmth? If so, please submit your application to [email protected] by Thursday, July 9th!

This is a part-time position with a 12-month contract. Compensation is in the range of $10,000-$12,000. Additional compensation may be available if the Executive Director agrees to assume additional responsibilities related to festival operations.

Here’s what you need to know:

- RAHHHHHH AHHHHH YAY YOU DID IT!!!! You performed, you volunteered, you hosted, you ran sound, you cheered, and you made one helluva week’s worth of memories that hopefully carry us all through the year.

- No shack hours today.

- Dress up theme is “Relaxation Sunday” so get comfy!

- There is one venue and three bands today. The weather looks gorgeous so come hang out inside or out at on the shores of Lake Superior.

Here are some things you need to know:

- The Homegrown Kickball Classic kicks off at high noon at Wheeler Athletic Complex, Field #2.

- The inaugural Homegrown Merch Fair hosted by twinportsartistcollective will take place in the Depot Great Hall from 2-7pm.

- Always check the website for the most up to date schedule.

- Tonight’s dress up theme is Sweatsuit Saturday 🏃🏼‍♀️

TGIF, Chickens! Here’s what you need to know for today:

- The Chicken Shack is open for band and volunteer packet pick up from 4-close. 1325 London Road.

- Tonight’s dress-up theme is Freaky Friday. The Chicken is getting freakayyyy. Interpretations are up to you! Check out our stories allll festival long. There’s a lot going on.

- Schedule changes happen, check the website for the most updated schedule!

- There is a lot of music tonight. It is impossible to get to everything. If you need a lift, the trolley will be looping through downtown all night! Look out for yellow trolley stop signs.

- Kickball is at high noon tomorrow in Wheeler Field, Field #2. Those who want to play for Leon Rohrbaugh’s Rockers congregate on the third-base side of the field and those who want to play for Duluth’s Famous Kaylee’s Rollers huddle on the first-base side. Come hang out!
