When it’s time to get out on the water, we are here to help inspire you. Exploring upriver from Chambers Grove park is a history lesson and always an exercise in wonder.. A paddle upstream in June last year yielded sightings of Bald Eagles near the Mont du Lac Marina and also showed some interesting stone formations. You can observe these geological features on our very own National Water Trail, here in the Twin Ports.

Pack your lunch, fishing poles, and water shoes for an afternoon of adventure! Life jackets required. Check out our website for resources to get you started at stlouisriver.org/nwt-plan-your-trip

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our What’s in Bloom Hike on June 1. The St. Louis River Alliance welcomed over 30 participants to Spirit Mountain for an evening of learning and connecting with plants and the restoration work at Knowlton Creek.

Led by naturalist Shannon Kesner, participants spent the evening discovering the plants, flowers, and trees blooming along the trail while learning about their many uses and cultural significance. Many others shared their own plant knowledge and it was a joy to hear so many voices, stories, and experiences!

Along the way, Minnesota DNR's Jeramy Pinkerton shared updates on the Knowlton Creek Restoration Project, explaining why restoration was needed, the work that has been completed, and how the project contributes to the ongoing recovery of the St. Louis River Area of Concern.

A special thank you to our presenters and to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing you at a future event!

This event is part of our River Connection Event Series and was supported by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency with funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

Have you been wanting to explore the Superior Municipal Forest in Wisconsin, perhaps by water? Then we have the day trip for you.

This trip is a novice to intermediate trip and is excellent for newer paddlers due to its sheltered water and accessible landing dock. It is only 3-10 miles, depending on your comfort level, and the route is a great place to explore the local wildlife.

For this trip, you can explore the Pokegama Bay and river for a safe and slow trip featuring shoreline habitats and wildlife-rich areas. To explore the outer parts of the bay, paddle to Clough Island. Clough Island is ~3.5 miles from Pokegama Bay Landing and features a great lunch spot and exploration on an island that once had a historic farm. For broader views of the estuary, you can paddle to Dwight’s Point and even camp there! A paddle to Dwight’s Point is ~4.5 miles from the landing. These variety of options are ideal for paddlers seeking different adventures, all while starting in sheltered water.

Please remember that Pokegama Bay is a hunting destination for waterfowl and trapping, stay visible and safe during hunting season.

What would you like to see at the future 44th Ave E waterfront site in Superior?

Project partners are gathering community input to help guide future concepts for public access, recreation, habitat, gathering spaces, and shoreline use at the former Bunge Dock site on Allouez Bay.

This is still early planning work — no final decisions have been made. Your feedback will directly help shape future ideas and priorities for the site. Please take the community survey: tinyurl.com/44-ave-dock
