Duluth Scottish Heritage Association

Duluth Scottish Heritage Association Perpetuating Scottish culture in NE Minnesota and NW Wisconsin since 1976. The Duluth Scottish Heritage Association, Inc. In 1990, the D.S.H.A.

(DSHA) had it's genesis during the United States Bicentennial year, 1976. There was a great awakening of ethnic interest throughout the United States. Scottish immigrants had played an important role in the foundation of the City of Duluth. Local Scots renewed their interest in preserving and perpetuating Scottish Culture and Arts in the Duluth area. A committee of these local Scots was formed to

honor their Scottish heritage. The traditional celebration of the Robert Burns' Night Dinner and the Kirkin' O' the Tartans ceremony was renewed and a program of highland dancing for children and adults begun. An upsurge in interest in playing the Great Highland Bagpipe occurred. Pipes and Drums originated. Men and women in the band are members of the D.S.H.A. who delight in performing Scottish music. New events within the past decade such as the D.S.H.A.'s spring concert and summer golf scramble have drawn in new interest to the DSHA. Renewed growth and interest in things Scottish has continued throughout the United States and Northeastern Minnesota. The Arrowhead Scots have been a part of the movement. On occasions of celebration, more kilts are appearing at Scottish events. Over the past thirty years events have flourished. Events sponsored by the D.S.H.A. are open to anyone.
