The Duluth Foot Trails Alliance has cleared ALL of the foot trails at Hawk Ridge, as of August 12! DuFTA took on maintenance of these hiking trails in 2023 in partnership with the Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory. The trails needed a lot of work initially, and we've been increasing the trails cleared each year. This year, for the first time, we've managed to clear all of the trails. We finished rehabilitating the Talus Trail earlier this summer, and on August 12, managed to clear the Pine Woods and Plantation Trails for the first time, which had many downed trees. With the start of the hawk migration, it's the perfect time to go explore these trails!

We have some opportunities coming up in the fall for more help with trail maintenance, a critical piece of volunteer work with our organization. Stay tuned to our page for more information in the coming months!

Happy Saturday and happy no-smoke-day! We have a couple weeks off before more trail maintenance days, but fear not! Trails are still open and ready for everyone to enjoy them, especially when we are all anxious to get outdoors after a few days cooped up. We also wanted to say a big thank you to Ace's who donated the tools here pictured with board member Josh: saw, lopper, gas can, oil. We will put them to good use on our next trail work night, August 5. Want to be part of the fun? Go to our website to sign up and we will see you out on the trails.

Trail Helpers needed!! Tonight is a Superior Hiking Trail Assn. work tonight and we are in need of volunteers. No training or background required, we will provide equipment and help you learn how to take care of these trails so they stay beautiful and accessible for years to come. Head over to the S*T website or check out the events tab for more details. If you can't make tonight, there are other opportunities ahead so stay tuned!!

DuFTA Trail Lovers!

We have added event pages for several Trail Work Days in the coming month and into July. We will be working with some other groups such as the S*TA and Duluth Climbers Coalition to help maintain some of our favorite trails around town.

No experience or equipment is necessary, just check out the event pages for more information and to register. Trail work days are a great way to learn more about trail conservation and to meet others who are as passionate about our local trails as you are. Check out the event pages for more details and we will see you out there!

National Trails Day is just 1 week away!
Join Duluth Foot Trails Alliance, DXC and the on National Trails Day, June 6th, as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Superior Hiking Trail!

Location: We'll meet at the Hartley Nature Center Trailhead at 10:30 am and hike towards Martin Road.

After Party: After the hike, join us and the S*T at Ursa Minor Brewing, where one of the FOUR Superior Hiking Trail birthday parties will be happening, from 4 PM to 7 PM on Saturday, June 6th. No sign-up necessary — there will be S*T-themed sweet treats and free drink tokens (as supplies last), more giveaways, and the opportunity to purchase limited-edition 40th Anniversary S*T merchandise. Most importantly, it is an opportunity to hang out with fellow S*T lovers. Special guest appearances by some S*T legends too.
