⭐ Our next Scholar Spotlight is Emerson Backen from Two Harbors High School!

This fall she will begin the Biology Transfer Pathway Program at Lake Superior College as she works toward a future in health sciences and a career dedicated to helping others. 🩺✨

When asked what song best sums up her high school experience, she chose “Long Live” by Taylor Swift — a reminder to cherish the friendships, memories, and achievements that shaped her journey.

Her personal mantra is simple but powerful: Treat people with kindness. She believes there can always be more kindness in the world!

Emerson says her genuine desire to help others will be one of her greatest strengths as she moves into the next chapter. Inspired by her parents’ constant encouragement, support, and guidance, she is ready to continue striving toward her goals.

We are proud to celebrate this scholar and look forward to seeing the difference she will make in the lives of others! 🎓💫

⭐ Our first STARBASE STEM Scholar Spotlight is Bianca Jukic from Marshall School!

This fall, Bianca will be heading to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she plans to study chemistry before applying to medical school with dreams of becoming a surgeon. 🩺✨

When asked what song best sums up her high school experience, she chose “Walking on a Dream” by Empire of the Sun.
One mantra that guides her through life is:
“What will be, will be.”

Bianca describes herself as adaptable, creative, and determined — someone who can navigate chaos, solve problems as they come, and never give up until she finds a way forward. That resilience and drive will no doubt serve her well in the next chapter of her journey.

When reflecting on who shaped her into the person she is today, her answer was immediate:
“My mom influenced me the most. She sacrificed so much for me to have the academic opportunities, co-curricular opportunities, and to get where I am today. I will always put in 100% effort into everything I do, to respect and repay the sacrifices she made for me.”

We are so proud to celebrate Bianca and cannot wait to see all the incredible things she accomplishes in the future! 🎓💫

Now in its second year, the STARBASE Minnesota, Inc. - Duluth STEM Scholarship continues to celebrate students who are reaching for the stars and pursuing bright futures in science, technology, engineering, and math. 🎓

We are so proud of these outstanding STARBASE alumni and all they’ve accomplished since their time with us in the classroom. Watching students grow from curious learners into future STEM leaders is exactly why we do what we do! 💫

Join us for a week packed with hands-on STEM adventures as students take on an exciting Mars Exploration mission through activities like rover coding, CAD design, engineering challenges, and interactive science experiments. 🚀🔬

From creativity and teamwork to problem-solving and discovery, this is a learning experience your students will be talking about long after the week is over.
