A quick note about our name

You may have seen our name written as “ARC Minnesota.” But the correct name is The Arc Minnesota.

Our name used to be an acronym many years ago. The “R” stood for a word that is no longer used and is no longer considered respectful to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Today, The Arc is not an acronym.

The name represents a bridge—connecting people with disabilities and their families to resources, support, and community.

Using The Arc Minnesota helps reflect our values of dignity, respect, and inclusion.

Thank you for helping us use language that honors the disability community.

What a great opportunity to share observations and feedback!

Arc Northland's Arrowhead Regional Quality Council (ARQC) Transportation Workgroup had a meaningful conversation with the -Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council (MIC) this morning to help influence the creation of a Safety Action Plan. And you have the opportunity to influence the plan too!

This plan is meant to reduce, and eventually eliminate, serious injuries and deaths from traffic crashes in our region with a focus on improving safety for everyone who uses our roads—whether you drive, walk, roll, bike, or take the bus.

Now through April 13th the project team is gathering input from community members (like you!) about places where travel feels unsafe. Visit their project webpage to learn more and provide feedback:

Join the District 8 Capitol Connector's Team! Our first meeting of the new legislative session is this evening at 6:30. Message me, or follow the link in the post, for the link to the virtual meeting and to learn more.

Capitol Connectors Teams build awareness about issues that impact Minnesotans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). These teams create a statewide, grassroots advocacy network. This network and the Capitol Connectors Teams focus on public policy, systems reform, and disability justice.

Working together, we can take action to create change, and build power in Minnesota’s disability community.
