We are gearing up for summer number FOUR of UGM's Project Joy Summer Weekend Food Bag Program! This year, we are serving more organizations, feeding more kids, and expanding our delivery zones- and we need YOUR help.

The Mission needs volunteers to sign-up to be the delivery drivers of these joy-filled bags! Volunteers will pick up large totes full of the food bags from First United Methodist Church, Duluth (The Coppertop) on Wednesdays at 1PM, and deliver them to youth organizations on either Wednesdays or Thursdays. Depending on the size of your vehicle, you may be able to sign-up to deliver to more than one organization!

Currently, we are looking for drivers who would be willing to deliver on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to youth organizations in Gary New Duluth, and Lincoln Park. In addition to this- we could use a couple folks with EXTRA-large vehicles like pick-up trucks or suburbans to deliver to the Spirit Valley area and Superior, WI.

If you are interested in signing up, please email our Development Coordinator, Jana here --> [email protected]

Today marks a transformational moment for our community.

We are deeply grateful to State Representative Pete Johnson, Representative Liish Kozlowski, and State Senator Jen McEwen for fighting to secure $8.85 million in state bonding support for our future Mission Engagement Center .

This investment is about far more than a building. It is about creating a place where our neighbors can come inside, feel safe, and access compassionate, all-encompassing support in one location — from meals, showers, clothing, and healthcare to behavioral health, addiction services, housing navigation, and connections to long-term stability and recovery.

To everyone who advocated, wrote letters, attended meetings, shared our vision, and believed this project was possible — thank you. This was truly a community effort, and today the Northland took a major step forward together. 💙

Big things are happening in Duluth.

Union Gospel Mission, Chum, and Damiano Center are coming together in a new collaborative effort to better serve our neighbors experiencing homelessness — creating clearer pathways from crisis and survival to stability, support, and housing.

This work is rooted in one simple belief: people deserve dignity, compassion, and systems that actually work together.

We’re grateful to our community partners, local leaders, businesses, supporters, and staff who have helped move this vision forward. There is still much work ahead, but we are hopeful about what’s possible when organizations choose collaboration over competition.

We’re expanding our team!

UGM is looking for a Mission Cook to help prepare and serve meals that are at the heart of everything we do. This role is fast-paced and hands-on—cooking from scratch, keeping service running smoothly, and working alongside volunteers to make sure every guest is served with dignity.

If you’re comfortable in a busy kitchen, take pride in your work, and want to be part of something that makes a real difference every day, we’d love to hear from you.

It’s still Volunteer Appreciation Week, and we’re giving a huge THANK YOU to MN Clothing Works! 🧵❤️

This incredible group shows up week after week to mend clothing, jackets, sleeping bags, and even tents—providing a practical service that makes a real difference for our guests.

Their work helps essential items last longer and ensures people have what they need to stay warm and cared for. We’re so grateful for their consistency, skill, and heart. Thank you for being such an important part of the Mission!

Celebrating National Volunteer Appreciation Week by showing some love to our newest board member, Stacey Green! 💛

Stacey first jumped in as a key volunteer during our inaugural Miles for the Mission 5K in 2025—and we’re so grateful she said yes to joining our board in January. Since then, she’s already stepped up in a big way, serving on multiple committees and continuing to support the Mission however she can.

“Saying yes to serving on the Union Gospel Mission board came from a deep respect for its hands-on compassion and proven commitment to meeting people where they are with dignity, hope, and practical support. I was inspired by the organization’s ability to turn community generosity into real, life-changing impact for our most vulnerable neighbors.”

We’re lucky to have you, Stacey. Thank you for showing up the way you do.
