Our first Wildcrafting workshop, Seed Sorting and Flower Drying, was a hit 🎉 And that was just the start - we’ve got 4 more classes lined up for the month of November! 🍂

First up are our two kudzu basket weaving classes, which will be the first two Saturdays of November - small baskets on the 7th, and large baskets on the 14th! Learn how to weave your own baskets, perfect for berry gathering and knick-knack collecting. All materials provided!

After that, we’ll teach you how to make your own willow trellis on the 21st, a perfect piece to prepare your garden for the next planting season - and to finish everything off, just in time for the holidays, we’ll hold a wreath-making workshop on the 28th!

Details for the Appalachian Harvest Food Boxes that will be distributed in Duffield on Friday (October 16th) - Please remember to stay in your vehicles - we will load the box for you! 😊

Pickup time: 10-12 (We usually run out sooner)

Place: Appalachian Harvest Food Hub, 280 Boone Trail Road, Duffield, VA.

Details: The boxes are free to anyone who needs food. You don’t have to pre-register or sign up; just pull into the car line, stay in your car, and we will load your box for you.

Contents: Fresh, nutritious, delicious veggies, and milk- all sourced from area farmers and producers ❤🍶🚜 🥗

Meet the Herb Hub Sales and Procurement Team!

🌱 Katie Commender 🌱

Katie first stumbled upon the herbal products industry in 2012 as ASD’s Agroforestry AmeriCorps VISTA, training hundreds of beginning forest farmers how to sustainably produce at-risk forest botanicals.

In 2017, she helped create the Appalachian Harvest Herb Hub so medicinal herb farmers could sustainably grow, process, and market herbs to the natural products industry. Today, Katie continues to teach the next generation of forest farmers.

🌱 Robin Suggs, Herb Hub Procurement Manager 🌱

Bringing a deep knowledge of the non-timber forest products (NTFPs) supply chain, Robin joined the Appalachian Harvest team in 2020. Before joining ASD, Robin was the sole proprietor of MoonBranch Botanicals, a producer of non-timber forest products in western NC.

His company supplied the natural products industry with high-quality native raw bulk botanicals for almost 10 years. Today, Robin is a tremendous mentor to forest farmers and medicinal herb producers across Appalachia, providing training and on-farm technical assistance to support sustainable production.
