Dubuque Kiwanis Club Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. No problem is too big or too small. Why?

The name “Kiwanis” means “we trade” or “we share our talents.” It was coined from an American Indian expression, Nunc Kee-wanis. Kiwanians are volunteers changing the world through service to children and communities. Kiwanis members help shelter the homeless, feed the hungry, mentor the disadvantaged, and care for the sick. They develop youth as leaders, build playgrounds, raise funds for pediatr

ic research, and much more. Because working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things happen! As Kiwanis clubs and members, we see it everyday!

A few members of our Dubuque Kiwanis Club stopped by a meeting of our Dubuque Aktion Club we sponsor last evening. They are planning a Burger Night fundraiser on Thursday, May 28th from 5 - 7:30 pm at the Eagles Club on Century Drive (behind the Kennedy Mall) to help support service projects they perform. $12 a person for the choice of a hamburger, cheeseburger or chicken strips with fries to support this great cause. The Aktion Club is a service club whose members are adults with disabilities.

Dubuque was the host location for the first ever Illinois-Eastern Iowa Builders Club Leadership Summit! Entrepreneur and educator Laura Hudik (and new Kiwanis member) spoke to students about her career. Former Iowa Congressman Rod Blum also spoke to the students about leadership and growth. Some of the students asked for autographs following his talk. Students then divided into three groups, one made toys for an area animal shelter, another blankets which will be given to a nursing home for residents and the third group helped with a gardening project at the location where the summit was held, Bread of Life Church. Also - our Division 15 Key Club Ltg along with President of the Dubuque Senior Key Club also spoke on joining Key Club when they attend high school. Builders Club members also were given the task to come up with a challenge either in world, nation or locally that they could work on locally in the future. The plan is to hold other summits around the district in the future.

What a great Governor's visit on Saturday in Galena with our Illinois-Eastern Iowa District Governor Mary to our Division 15!
