The Red Basket Project of Dubuque The Red Basket Project provides period products to those in need to manage their periods safely and with dignity.

The Red Basket Project strives to ensure each period is met with products, especially in cases of personal or financial need. We believe access to period products is a basic human right. Having your period should not be a barrier to attending school, work or participating in any part of life. With your donations, we supply Period Packs to the Dubuque Rescue Mission, the Dubuque Food Pantry, Dubuquโ€‹e Community Middle and High Schools, Resources Unite, Operation New View and countless other agencies in our community. We also assist other communities in starting their own Red Basket Project.

Weโ€™re excited to share that Sandra Kirkendall has been named interim Board President of The Red Basket Project!

Sandra has been part of our Board of Directors since April 2025, most recently serving as Secretary. She brings her passion for public service, legal background, and board experience, serving on the East Central Iowa Association of Realtors and the Dubuque Montessori School Boards.

We remain a 100% volunteer-run organization and the dedication of the Red Basket Project in our community will continue through this new leadership change. Thank you to all of our partners and the community for their continued support!

For those who are homeless or those with insufficient financial resources, their period can be the most dreaded time of the month. Having minimal or no access to period products, one is forced to improvise or worse, go without.

By partnering with schools, food pantries, shelters, and other community organizations, we integrate menstrual product access into the places individuals and families are already going for support. This reduces barriers, increases accessibility, and ensures products are available in a consistent and stigma-free way.

๐Ÿ“ฆ Products are used to assemble period packs to cover an entire menstrual cycle.
๐Ÿš— Packs make their way to one of our community distribution partners.
๐Ÿค A person who needs period products can access them with dignity.

And just like thatโ€ฆ that one box of tampons became part of something much bigger.
