Thank you to all that supported the Centennial Cross benefit at Burkey's in Key West yesterday. The meat raffles went great, the sandwiches were delicious and the Massey Road Band did a great job enteraining the crowd! Thanks to Dan and Donna and their staff and friends for hosting this fundraiser and to everyone for their support and extra donations too! One of the coolest things was to hear the nice comments about the Cross and what it means to folks in our community.

It was a great day for a parade in Key West! Thanks to all who organize and put on this Key West tradition. We pulled a float in the parade for the Centennial Cross. Want to thank Mik Kane for help in putting it together. Also thanks to Chris Tigges the emergency welding job to fix the portable cross that we borrowed from Reflections in the Park. Tim Pancratz helped us out with a generator to light the cross on the trailer. Speaking of trailers - thanks to Mike and Kerry Reuter for lending us theirs. Also have to shout out to Brett Schueller, Mary Love, Jim Sigwarth and Rich and Jane Glennon for walking the route and passing out BLUE Tootie Fruities and Prayer Cards. Greg & Sherri Birkett for pulling the float and Lange Sign Co. for the banners! Thanks to Pat Leonard for suggesting we put a float in the parade.

Just a reminder - there is no public access to the Centennial Cross - the Cross is surrounded by private property so please do not try to visit the cross as you would be trespassing. We have had people trying to get to the cross and there is no way to do so. In the future we are working with Mt. Olivet Cemetery to install an information board and a reflection spot for people to be able to visit and reflect and pray. We are still trying to raise money to complete the fundraising for the project. Please consider making a donation at www.centennialcross.org or mail a check to Centennial Cross Inc., PO BOX 1315, Dubuque, IA 52004-1315

One of the wonderful things about the Centennial Cross rebuilding and relighting is all the stories about what the cross has meant to people in our community over the years. Stories about people returning to Dubuque and feeling at home once they see the cross. Stories about growing up and seeing the cross or about visiting loved ones near the cross and great memories.

Recently we had a call from a gentleman who told us the cross could be seen from his home out the living room window. His wife’s health was in decline and as her health worsened they put a hospital bed in the living room and would often pray together while looking at the cross out the window. He recalled how it gave them both great comfort just seeing that beacon in the sky and how it watched over her as she passed.

Help us reach our fundraising goal and let's keep this wonderful landmark around for generations to come. www.centennialcross.org
