🎉 10,000 followers! And a whole lot of people to thank. ❤️

Over the past two years, we’ve had the privilege of sharing the stories of the entrepreneurs, business owners, makers, developers, and dreamers who continue to invest in Downtown Dubuque.

They’ve opened doors, restored spaces, taken chances, pursued big ideas, and given us an incredible number of stories to tell.

Today, more than 10,000 people are following along.

That milestone belongs just as much to the people you see in these photos as it does to us. Our social media could never have grown the way it has without people willing to put themselves, their ideas, and their businesses out there, and allowing us to share a small part of their story with the community.

So as we celebrate 10,000 followers, we especially want to say thank you to the incredible people investing their time, energy, creativity, and ambition in Downtown Dubuque.

You give us something worth sharing.

And to everyone who follows, comments, shares, and helps those stories reach a little farther, thank you for being part of it.

10,000 down. Plenty more stories to tell. ❤️

🎳 A hidden piece of downtown Dubuque is opening its doors again.

Meet Kevin James O'Brien, the new owner of 1029 Main Street and the entrepreneur behind O'Brien's on Main - Dubuque.

A Davenport native and 2011 Loras graduate, Kevin previously served in the Peace Corps in Mozambique, working in humanitarian aid and international development. Those experiences helped shape a simple idea that now drives this new venture: people need places to connect.

Kevin originally came downtown looking for a small café or “third place.” He wasn’t planning to buy a bowling alley.

Then he discovered 1029 Main Street.

Inside was a historic bowling alley, complete with pinsetters installed in 1958, and a space that felt perfect for creating something social, retro, and a little different.

As Kevin has begun welcoming people inside, he’s also discovered how much history this place holds. He’s heard stories of family Christmas parties, childhood bowling trips, and longtime traditions, while others are surprised to learn the bowling alley exists at all!

This weekend, O’Brien’s on Main is opening its doors for an early look. The business is still taking shape and the vintage pinsetters are undergoing maintenance, but Kevin will be serving canned beverages at the bar and welcoming the community in to meet him and see what’s ahead.

🎨 A new creative space is taking shape in downtown Dubuque.

Meet Inner States Art Lab, the studio, gallery, and casual event space of local artist Stina Henslee, located at 1917 Jackson Street.

Stina moved into the former storefront in November 2025 and transformed it into a space where she can create, exhibit new work, collaborate with other artists, and welcome the community.

Originally from the Chicago suburbs, Stina has lived in Dubuque for six years. She works professionally as a graphic designer while continuing to develop and present her studio practice. Her artwork is immediately recognizable for its combination of intricate detail and bold expressiveness.

Stina credits her move to Dubuque with helping her find the physical space, creative freedom, and supportive arts community that allowed her signature style to blossom. Her work has since appeared in local galleries, including the Dubuque Museum of Art, and can also be found throughout The Goose.

You can experience Inner States Art Lab for yourself during First Fridays this Friday, August 7, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m

Stina will welcome Chicago-based artist and longtime friend Andrew Ek for “Languid Summer,” an exhibition featuring new work by the visiting artist.

Still making dinner plans for tonight? The Vault Restaurant & Cocktail Lounge just gave you a very good reason to head downtown.

The Vault has officially released a new menu featuring fresh ingredients, familiar comfort food, and bold new flavors inspired by American, Asian, and Italian cuisine.

Leading this next chapter is General Manager Carlos Luna, who stepped into the role in May after four years with The Vault and more than a decade in the food industry. Carlos recommends starting with the Kimchi Pasta or Alabama Chicken Thighs, and after sampling the menu ourselves, we can confirm there is plenty worth trying.

The new menu also includes Gochujang Wings, Meatloaf, Apple Feta Salad, and Grandpa’s Bread Pudding. That bread pudding was particularly amazing and is absolutely worth saving room for.

The Vault is also placing a greater emphasis on fresh, natural ingredients, including fries prepared with beef tallow. The result is an evolving menu that combines classic favorites with new ideas and flavors for Dubuque diners to discover.

Lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., small bites are available from 2 to 4 p.m., and dinner is served from 4 p.m. to close.

Make The Vault part of your dinner plans tonight and experience what is new!
