Young Professionals Dubuque Young Professionals of Dubuque began with approximately 60 members in the spring of 2006 and has grown to over 1400 members.

Under the leadership of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce, Young Professionals Dubuque (YPD) exists to connect young professionals with each other, the business community, and the city in which we live, work, play, and do business. The Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce discovered that Dubuque-area young professionals were looking for an organization that would do things differently. Young profes

sionals were asking for a group that addressed their needs with a dash of creativity and a focus on professional development, networking, and community involvement. Those needs coincided with the Chamber's desire to acquaint the area's young professionals with each other; knowing that relationship is a powerful retention tool. YPD has evolved to a dynamic group that the Dubuque Chamber and community as a whole look to as up-and-coming leaders in Tri-State area.

The Dubuque Community Y Crisis Services Shelter (DYCS) is committed to providing safe, confidential, and trauma-informed services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other emergent crisis situations. Through emergency shelter, advocacy, and supportive services, DYCS empowers individuals and families to achieve safety, healing, and long-term independence while promoting dignity, equity, and a stronger, violence-free community.

Dubuque's Mayor Brad Cavanagh presented at the August YP Luncheon. He spoke on his journey from starting out as a Professor of Social Work at Loras College, to running for his first campaign, to being elected for a second term as Mayor of the Dubuque community.

He shared valuable insight on what it is like to face challenges not only in his day to day but in finding the career that is right for you. He also shared about how much love he has for the Dubuque community and all of the individuals who reside here, and how important it is to vote, educate, and speak on bettering your community as a whole! (Trust us, he knows Dubuque needs a Trader Joes)

He ended his presentation with an open Q&A session. Young professionals from the community had time to ask about his experiences, questions about facing social media and being in the public eye, and even feedback on different things going on in Dubuque!
